RIP Chris Cornell

I am stunned and sad to hear of the passing of Chris Cornell suddenly last night in Detroit. Only 52 years young, so sad.
Former lead singer for Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, and Audioslave.
His voice was amazing, and his talent will be missed.

RIP Chris.

I have always loved SG music and his voice was one of a kind.  I just bought their compilation on vinyl - awesome.

Another great talent from Seattle perished . "Heavy is the head that wears the crown".
RIP CC

I do not know anything about this person and may he rest in peace .

A Mayo Clinic doc told me rockers often die young because coke is very hard on your heart.

Again, I am in no way talking about Mr. Cornell .
Seeing reports it was a suicide.
No one knows what burdens anybody else is carrying.

ghost house, you are so right here with what you say, I suspect everyone of us is dealing with something that is not visible to those around us, so we should be kind to each other always.  Always.

Yes, I am seeing reports of suicide by hanging. From the NY Times:

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office said the death was a suicide by hanging. It said a full autopsy had not yet been completed.

Tragic, brings back memories of Kurt Cobain.

Chris really worked at his art, and left a lot of good material as his legacy. I think he would be well remembered if the first two Soundgarden releases were all that he ever did.

Emotionally interesting, and rhythmically complex, especially Superunknown, I think that they influenced other bands for years after and still do.

Thanks for everything Chris.

Indeed John.
Let's all play Badmotorfinger.
Apparently the last song they played at the Detroit show was a cover of In my time of dying.

Yes, as ghosthouse said above, no one knows what burdens people are carrying. I grew up with his music. He had one of the greatest voices in rock, no question.

But I can't help but feeling a little pissed, to be honest. Plus he had three kids. Come on man.
i'm decidedly in the minority, but i think his bond theme (from casino royale) was the second best ever (goldfinger being of course the ultimate). from what i read he suffered from depression, which led to drink/drugs, but was sober of late. all very sad--a great voice.
52 is plenty of time to get something done and Chris has definitely left a great musical legacy.  There's his original work, but he was also a great interpreter.

RIP, indeed...

Why is it that some of the greater talents seem to carry the greatest burdens in silence, only to surprise us when they make these tragic decisions?  Robin Williams comes to mind....a great talent, suddenly lost when he apparently felt there was only one option left.

This is not new news...I'm not citing anything unusual...

Depression is a disease that can be treated, or at least, dealt with.  It does require the intervention of those closest to the individual to recognize the symptoms and ACT.  As we mourn CC, we should get a clue and look around us.  It's not limited to the rich, the famous, the talented, or even your family, friends, neighbors, or coworkers.

Pause....take a moment....educate yourself....and look around.

Reach our, and maybe, just maybe you can prevent this from happening on your 'doorstep'...

Or even to you....

*J kicks his soapbox away....*
This will sound strange to anyone raised in a mass society, but think on it.

To look for a job, whether its you first one or your last one, means you are already in deep trouble .

There was a reason those freed slaves never got those 40 acres and a mule they were promised . Wage slaves also need not apply .
