Is Audio nirvana real?

I think it is.  I m finally happy with my system! I'm done!
calvinj
For some it's a journey.  I ran into a bunch of car collectors at lunch.  They were quite happy to have owned and sold lots of cool cars.

Personally, I want something fabulous that I'm happy with and can focus on music and the living room.  While I feel I've developed a discriminating ear, I have to shut it off if I want to enjoy what I have.

At some point too I decided that while I could sometimes hear differences in cables, it was just not worth it. I stuck to things with big payoffs. I use all silver interconnects, and plain speaker wire.  If a system won't sound fabulous with that, it's just not for me.

Your mileage and pleasure of course will vary! :-) But there are some who like the trading and various experiences, including getting to meet people like me (cough cough) and for them it's like taking a road trip. It's not that they want to move so much as they want to see the road.

Best,

Erik
Is it real? YES! Very definitely. Did not know that for sure when I began building my current system about 7 years ago...or, if I got there at all, how much it would cost, what it would take or how long...but, I basically already have it. All I can say for sure about it is that once you're there, you Know it, straight away - no two ways about it.

It IS possible...though looking back, I now know a helluva lot had to happen for me to get here.  For one I actually had to Learn how to not give up on the dream until I had it in my hands. Sincerely hope others can do the same and reach that place for themselves. For me it was absolutely worth it.
Audio nirvana is real, but not tangible......it’s a state of mind.
Yes.....and no....for me it has turned out to be a little of both. When nirvana is real, then the answer becomes "yes....but for how long??" You can get pretty familiar with those nagging little dissatisfactions along the way when system building....the ones that seem to take the longest to overcome maybe in particular. But, once they indeed were All Truly Gone, then I found that to be a game changer. Looking back at it now, I can recall the exact point at which the balance tipped.

Will it still be nirvana for me 10 yrs from now?? I don’t know. But, then again I’m 56. Maybe the better question for me now is will my hearing still be good enough for me to enjoy it. But, if anyone is going to take at least a decade or so to slog it out like I did (lots of mods and DIY, etc), then my advice is to not leave it too late...! Lol
Hmmmm...I’m thinking the square root of minus 1.

"A rich audiophile has about as much chance of entering audio nirvana as a camel has of passing through the eye of a needle."
- old audiophile axiom

I agree with jmcgrogan2, it's a state of mind. I see it as an art form which we all appreciate in different ways. We're all on a voyage of discovery. For me, it's the most authentic reproduction of the recording, whether or not the results are good. Some like the Seventies Sound, and I can dig that as well. Every system and setup paints a different picture of the recording.

Nirvana, is hard to hold on to. Sitting back in the evening, listening to a quality recording that I love, and finding that smile lifting up from the corner of my mouth, is what does it for me. Keeping the smile going, is the real trick.

Keep smiling!
Kenny
Sure it's real. Been there plenty of times. It's right off the audio interstate just north of listening pleasure bluff, down by the banks of the musically intoxicating stream.
Nirvana is very real.  I'm selling entry level Nirvana for $5,250.

Based on satisfaction derived from our flagship "Total Nirvana", for $55,000, you get most of the happiness and joy most people need for 1/10th the cost.

There's also "Glimps of Nirvana" which is $500 for those just starting to look for happiness, but it works only a few seconds a year.
calvinj - happy for you, but in line with onhwy61's comment...how much more valuable would your post be if your system were listed?

nonoise - Excellent.
If I recall Calvinj’s system correctly, he would have to not have a pulse to not be in nirvana of some sort.
It's always funny when people say they can tell what a system sounds like by seeing a list of the components and speakers or seeing a photo of the system. Break me a give.

Had you really reached nirvana you wouldn't be talking to us, or anyone for that matter. It's an illusion, disregard it and keep going.

You can't obviously but some bets are safer than others.

Post your system and I'll show you a system that can't distinguish the difference between a stock fuse and an aftermarket fuse. Now, THAT'S a safe bet.
Could be, wabbit, could be.......

But its audio nirvana for me regardless.

You can bet on that.
I am also done, I just buy music.

No new equipment unless something breaks. I am spent.

I keep coming back to this site, just to stay in touch with tech, in case I need something replaced in the future.
Audio nirvana may still result from trying different things of interest just because you can even after finally being able to enjoy the music.   It's a thrill of the chase kind of thing.

Pretty sure what you have there is Audio Nervosa, not Audio Nirvana.
I used to let comments bother me but I realize now more than ever that you enjoy what you have and don't worry about other folks who will never hear your system. Don't kill my vibe! Lol. I won't say the other word.

Animals are best when stressed but not too much. So are people. Nirvana would suck big time.
Just when you think you've arrived at Audio Nirvana, you find another tweak or two and it moves you up another couple of notches. Its sort of like a heroin habit ... only more expensive.
Music is my main relief from stress. Not a cause of it. Except when something making the music is not working right of course. 😫

That and exercise.
As usual, heaven is in your mind.
Mind over matter.
I don't mind, and it doesn't matter.
And more of that, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.....*L*

Be happy with what you have, or be happy over the pursuit of 'happy'.
I'm a bit of both, depending on what I'm focused on...

Which comments...?
Anyone who thinks he can reach audio nirvana, and I'm not talking about feeling good about yourself or pleased about your system, but the REAL audio nirvana, in say ten or twenty years just doesn't understand the problem.

I'm inclined to agree with Geoff. You can be extremely satisfied with your system but 'audio nirvana' as a finality does not exist.

Disagree with Geof, because it's very simple and very finite -- when your audio turns on your spouse.
It’s all mostly a state of mind. You are in control to make it whatever you want it to be. Nothing else matters.    Paranoia is the enemy.

This is is your mind. This is your mind on drugs. A mind is a terrible thing to have.

Paranoia? Geez, don't be such a Chicken Little. Paranoia is not the issue. Situational awareness is the issue. You don't know what you don't know.

Joke of the day: a man sitting in a commercial jet aircraft turns to the man on his right and says, "Hey, look at the people down there, they look just like ants." To which the other man replies, "They are ants. We haven’t left the ground yet."

*L* The only time(s) I've been paranoid about my system is when I've hit the switch(s) and nada occurs...  Then you go 'noid into the WTF zone....

But I guess that's why it's called a 'surprise'....*G*
Finally. A combination that I can live with for a long time. 7 years changing  gear at a pace that was dizzying at times. I have have enjoyed the chase now back to the music. Nirvana is real if you want it to be.

At the risk of beating a dead horse can I suggest audio nirvana has very little to do with the equipment per se and everything to do with how the system is put together, how extensively and effectively the room is treated and how many tweaks are administered?

Cheers
Ah duh. I didn't know room acoustics, Equipment matching, synergy and other things mattered. I'm glad a got smart people like you to tell me.  Laughing.  Thanks for the basic information. Lol.

No. I'm saying forget the equipment. Equipment is a dead end. Equipment synergy, equipment matching, all that stuff.

Ok thanks! I get what you are saying.  All those factors are so important. Sometimes more important than equipment.  The best sound I heard was at Dave Baskin's place at Designaudiovibeo before he past away. He had Soulutions and raidho gear but more importantly he had a perfectly acoustically treated listening room along with the equipment synergy. I do understand all that matters greatly.  Im using clarity cable power cords and interconnects in my system it has really good synergy with the rest of my gear. Enjoy.
Equipment is a dead end.

I don't have any equipment & just listen to my cells dying.
OK, my entire system weighs 10 ounces. No power cords, no interconnects, no tubes, no fuses, no house AC, no AC ground, no transformer, no speaker cables, no speakers. I barely have any equipment to speak of. So, suddenly I’m the bad guy? What’s up with that?
