Your Top 5 Favorite Power Ballads

The are the first 5 I thought of.

Dream On- Aerosmith
Love Hurts- Nazareth
The Flame- Cheap Trick
Wind Of Change- Scorpions
Nobody Knows Billy Squire
Hey You!
Shine On your Crazy Diamond
Us and Them
Wish You Were Here...

For me they're all mostly from one band except "Dazed and Confused" which is closer to the blues.
Good post!
Comfortably Numb too!
Alone Again-Dokken
Don't Close Your Eyes-Kix
Don't Let It End- Yngwie Malmsteen
Fly To The Angels-Slaughter
Cries In The Night- WASP
tough picking only 5. left some great ones off.

Heroin-Lou Reed
Wish You Were Here-Pink Floyd
Tuesdays Gone-Lynyrd Skynyrd
Cowgirl in the Sand-Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Wind Cries Mary-Jimi Hendrix
Stairway to Heaven- Led Zeppelin (Far and away the best)
Us and Them- Pink Floyd
November Rain- Gun's and Roses
Sarah- Fleetwood Mac
Rain ore me- The Who
come on, no one has the guts to state the much beloved/hated obvious:

1) Stairway to Heaven

2) Don't Stop Believe-in

3) Faithfully - Journey

4) Never Tear Us Apart - INXS

5) Wanted, Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi (yes, I said it!)
Although not as well known as the 80's glam rock bands, one of my favorites is

Moon by dada

Killer ballad that builds to a tremendous guitar crescendo..

Reign 'Or Me, actually a great song. V Good call.
How could I forget Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue?
As a child of the 80's, this is right up my alley.

1) Honestly by Stryper
2) Angel Eyes by Steelheart
3) Don't Know What You Got Til It's Gone by Cinderella
4) When the Children Cry by White Lion
5) Close your eyes forever by Lita Ford w/Ozzy

and a last one to add to the Bon Jovi heap,,,,, how about
Every Rose Has Its Thorns by Poison
#5 Midnight Oil- One Country 5:55
#4 Springsteen- Backstreets(Hammersmith Live) 7:22
#3 Gov't Mule- Soulshine(Deepest End) 10:29
#2 Springsteen- For You(Hammersmith Live) 8:26
#1 Lynyrd Skynyrd (BBC Live) 10:13
What no Styx?
I Remember You-Skid Row

I Remember You-Skid Row

Good one! Forgotten about it!
Zepplin's "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You"

Alice Cooper's "Only Women Bleed"

Kiss's "Beth"

Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home"

Ozzy's "Mama I'm Coming Home"
"More Than Words Can Say", Alias
"Love of A Lifetime", Firehouse
"Heaven", Warrant
"When I'm With You", Sheriff
"When I See You Smile", Bad English
Not a fan of power balads in general, especially from the hair bands. These are as close as I get...

'July Morning'- Uriah Heap
'Broken/Head Over Heals'- Tears for Fears
'Sabra Cadabra'- Black Sabbath
'Astronomy'- Blue Oyster Cult
'Feel Like Making Love'- Bad Company
Songs from Michael Learns to Rock.
I Want to Know What Love Is--Foreigner
Nights in White Satin--Moody Blues
More Than A Feeling--Boston
What About Love--Heart
The End
Really a lot of bad music in here. Isn't that the point? I don't think we are talking about our favorite "good" power ballads, right? Any list that includes Bon Jovi and Foriegner "I Want to Know What Love Is" has to suck right?

Since I've Been Loving You
Bridge of Sighs
Voodoo Child
I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Power Ballad...I've always laughed at that term.
Call it what it is,songs to get chicks to buy the record!!
This term came out of the 80's hair band era.
I'm pretty sure Floyd,Hendrix and Trower would not like to be included in this bunch. This is just my opinion on the subject, everyone is entitled to their own.
Journey - Who't Crying Now (always liked Schon's simple but beautiful solo on this one)
ZZ Top - Rough Boy
Joe Satriani - Always With Me Always With You (not sure if it counts)
Def Leppard - Hysteria
Aerosmith - What it Takes
Wind of Change - Scorpions
Behind Blue Eyes - Who
Long Goodbyes - Camel
Babe I'm Going to Leave You - Zeppelin
When I'm With You - Sheriff

BTW, Andrew Latimer's guitar lead at the end of "Long Goodbyes" is perhaps my favorite of all time. IT takes a tune that is already soaring at that point to an ever higher stratospheric level that is hard to match.
Another hair metal classic that was overlooked...Nobody's Fool-Cinderella.
Love Hurts covered by Joan Jett.
Here's 5 on 1 album- Def Leppards' Vault:
Bringin' On The Heartbreak
Love Bites
Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad
Normally not my favorite genre, but Todd Rundgren is a master. He did a power ballad intensive record in the '80's called "Nearly Human" that's loaded with great examples. Videos from the tour supporting that album are all over You Tube. Check out "Parallel Lines" and "Can't Stop Runnin" with Todd and Lyle Workman (now a big hollywood film score guy) on guitar. TR's never been afraid to have a monster second guitar in his band -currently Jesse Gress - and this is used to great effect on these power ballads. If you stretch the definition a bit, the bluesy "Unloved Children" from the same tour might be the best of these You Tube videos.

this list must include...

"too drunk to f**k" - dead kennedys
Queen---We Are the Champions

how about Once bitten twice shy by Great White,
Take you home tonight by Boston
babe by Styx
Sweet Melissa by the Alman Brothers
Beth by Kiss

GnR - Sweet Child
Poison - Every Rose has it's thorn
Skid Row - I will remember
Motorhead - Ace of spades. This always seemed to get played around last call while I was in college, it was also when most of my romantic meetings occured. :)
I'll add "Whats Going On" by 4 Non Blondes
I'll add "Whats Up" by 4 Non Blondes
Dream on
Free bird
Babe im going to leave you
Living on a prayer
Child in time
Holy thread resurrection, Mapman !!!!!
July Morning-Uriah Heep
Still Loving You-Scorpions
Save Your Love-Great White
Fly To The Angels-Slaughter
Song And Emotion-Tesla
Just Between You and Me- April Wine
Two Steps Behind- Def Leppard
Tuesday's Gone- Lynyrd Skynyrd
Beth- Kiss
Last Train Out of My Heart- Cinderella

"Just Between You and Me- April Wine"

I forgot about that one....
Not many listed before Mapman's holy thread resurrection were actually power ballads, but we're doing much better here in 2012.

Night Ranger - Sister Christian

You're motoring!!!
Comfortably numb- David Gilmore/ Pink Floyd
Throw down the sword-Wishbone Ash
Sebrof-Sister Christian good call! Here's 5 more that are great songs that classic rock/retro radio has forgotten...

Screaming In The Night-Krokus
When The Night Comes Down-Judas Priest
That Time Of Year-Vinnie Vincent Invasion
It Ain't Love-House Of Lords
Sister Christian...good call also!
Not sure these are all power ballads, but my list is:
