That should stick out on her resume👍

Will have to play the LP now. Haven't listened  to it for quite some time. The album kicks ass from the needle drop.

Wonder why a Canadian drummer didn’t get the gig?

Thanks for the post, great video . What are your thoughts on Anika replacing the Great Neil Peart ? Cheers, Mike B

I saw Jeff Beck a few years ago and Anika was his tour drummer.  She was incredible...not Neal Peart, but amazingly good.

I've seen RUSH at least a half dozen times and have to say they have the absolute weirdest fans...just sayin'...

@buellrider97 I see joy on Geddy and Alex’s face. Some nerves (maybe) on Anika. I thought she sounded great. I am going to be in Toronto (yyz) in Aug. I am going to try and get some tickets.

Musical savants.

I just saw this a couple of hours ago. I’m happy for Alex and Geddy that they get to play again. It seems to me that they made a good choice for their drummer. She is super talented from what I’ve seen.

Totally agree about the apparent joy on their faces. Such an incredible and eventful friendship those two have had - what a run!

They can do whatever they want. If a Rush fan wants to go see them and support the tour, I get it.

Its’s not for me.

I really like Envy of None.  A project featuring Alex Lifeson. The singer, Maiah Wynne, also has an excellent solo album.

This medley just blew me away. A nice comparison to the Anika's version of Finding My Way.

RUSH: Best Intro EVER!!!

I am listening to his on YouTube on a computer with headphones that I use for office calls. Just blown away by this.

It’s sad when a band loses such an amazing talent.  NP is considered one of the best if not the best rock drummer of all time.  I can hear his drum fills now.  Great that the remaining members decided to keep playing together and brought in another incredibly talented rock drummer.  It reminds me of when Keith Moon passed and The Who went on with Kenny Jones initially and then with other drummers over the years.  Long live rock.  Long live Rush.

@bassbuyer .. Kenny Jones is a fine drummer, but I hope she is a better fit with Rush than Kenny Jones was with the Who. I'm not sure about heart and soul, but Moonie had something essential in the Who (all 4 of them did), and was in a different league as a unique drummer than the excellent Kenny Jones (or just about anybody else).

I remember being in high school when Rush was popular. A kid with a peach fuzz mustache and a Camaro would drive around blasting it. Good times, but then again, I was 14.

@mofimadness , LOL about the fans. I’ve seen Tool twice and I had that thought about their fans. 35 year old males in black trench coats. I must say the majority of the Tool fans I spoke with seemed very intelligent. @yyzsantabarbara , Anika in my opinion lacks that male upper body mass and strength that drummers like The Professor have. My brother drums out of Bently’s in Fresno. I’ve been there when Tommy Aldridge and Carmine Appice played amongst others. But those two have that brutal power like Peart had. I think Peart had the power plus the speed and timing like Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. But that’s just my 02 cents. FWIT I’ve run into Aldridge in Montecito at Starbucks. That’s about the only thing in that town I can afford. 😆 Cheers , Mike B.

I took my wife to see RUSH at Caeser’s Palace in Vegas around 2013. She did stick out amongst the crowd.

@buellrider97 I do not know too much about drumming, but Anika seemed to have some nice rhythm to her playing on Finding My Way.

The drummer that always impresses me over everyone else is John Bonham. I feel like his drums sound the most powerful.

The drumming was fine on that song; Geddy’s vocals were an absolute travesty. Awful. I love his "classic" voice, but at this point it’s shot and he really should hand off to someone who can do a decent job. I get that this particular song is probably tougher than most in their catalog, but...sheesh.

People rightfully give David Lee Roth and Vince Neil crap for their terrible nostalgia cash-in performances, and I don’t see how this is much better.

David Lee Roth and Vince Neil do it because they have to. Blew all there coin up their nose. Geddy and Alex do it for the love of their craft. They could stay in their studios doing anything they want with anyone they want but choose to be with each other and their fans. I think it is rare and beautiful.

@yyzsantabarbara , FWIT I sent your link to my drummer brother. He said she was at Bently’s Drum Shop about 3 years ago to put on a seminar. He said she is very intelligent and very nice. Is a teacher and has a really thick accent. I saw Bonzo play with Zeppelin, Day on the Green Oakland 1977, the Saturday show. People have opinions , but mine is Bonzo is number one. I have not seen Jason in person but he’s very good. Cheers , Mike B.

@buellrider97, body mass has very little to do with strength. Drumming doesn't require much strength anyway. It requires stamina - which is a completely different thing also.

I saw that. Geddy is still hitting those high notes and Anaka was one big smile!  Kinda cool seeing Neil playing in the background too.

RUSH was my favorite band for 30+ years. I've seen them many times and my wife I met indirectly because of them (a Rush message board) and it was great to see them playing again. Anika is awesome and will easily be able to do what's needed, regardless of what people say about her capabilities. Geddy's voice tho, no bueno. It sounded better than it did during the 2015 tour, but that's not saying much. Stuff happens as we age, and especially if you don't take care of yourself, or in this case, your voice.

Nice when hard rock bands start smiling for pictures and on stage. Guess thats not cool when your a teen. Rush started awhile back even putting goofy, funny props on stage. Good rockumentry on them a few years back. They came across as authentically very professional and nice guys.

Alot of respect as they didnt seem to be hard partyers and even mentioned theyd shy away from after show partys and just go back to their hotels to chile.

I’m headed to the first Cleveland show in September. Very excited to see this.

Anika in my opinion lacks that male upper body mass and strength that drummers like The Professor have.

Poor little waif.  At least she is able to make up for that extreme handicap with extreme skill.

@jji666    Rush will just heavily amplify and boost the level of output on the drum kit, problem solved. Bottom line the Anika decision was a win/win for Rush. It makes the band appear 21st century PC, it avoids any direct comparison to Neil Peart and still provides a slight "rock" circus atmosphere.

I have been a Rush fan since one of my high school mates

gave me a copy of 2112 in 1979.  I have seen them

more times than I can count and will see them again in DC in October.

Anyone who was able to play with Jeff Beck has chops.  It’s weird seeing a tiny woman behind the kit with Alex and Geddy. However just getting to see them

one more time is more than any true fan can ask for.

I’ve been playing drums since I was 7 years old.  Neil was among the giants. Him, Bonham, Moon, Baker, Bruford gave birth to a whole second generation of powerhouse players; Portnoy, Mangini, Lange, Sucherman, and of course little Anika.
we should all be grateful that we lived when they did and get to enjoy their music for as along as we can still hear😂.

I was not planning on going but I keep watching the Juno performance and had to go. Los Angeles on Tues with my 20 something musician friend.

She is great.  She’s also German.  Wonder how it felt to be drumming in concert underneath video stream of Neil Pert?

Also wondering if you listened to the Youtube soundtrack through your Imersiv D1, and if so how it sounds?

kn

You motivated me to take my laptop and connect it direct by USB to the imeriv D-1. Normally I have a Sonore OpticalRendu on the USB input.

I have heard Finding My Way on YouTube over 10x and via the imersiv D-1 it is almost very good. Definitely better than any previous times I have heard the Youtube clip, but the sound is still restricted somewhere. The drums are more pronounced on the D-1 and sound even better than I had heard before.

BTW - I sold my more neutral CODA #16 last week and replaced it with the 30-year-old CODA #11, which I just got back from CODA after $144 in upgrades and bias adjustment. A great move, since the slightly warmer #11 is a perfect match for the #11.  Now if I sell either of these, I need to be committed.

BTW2 - back in the day I would be very excited to see any video of RUSH, especially the Subdivisions video which was shot in my high school and neighborhood. However today, I have tons of RUSH concert videos at my fingertips, fantastic.

Hah!  My wife and I met in SB. Lived in a succession of funky rooms and shacks. Left in ’83, seeking a more affordable locale. I retain many fond memories of living in SB, beginning in ’76. For music-lovers, it was truly a paradise!

@yyzsantabarbara I just received Moving Pictures vinyl. It’s a reissue but states the following…

180g Vinyl Reissue Pressed at Quality Record Pressings!

Direct Metal Mastered from Original Analog Masters at Abbey Road Studios!

I’m pleasantly surprised by the sound quality. I do find that Rush recordings are light on bass. It’s focused more on showing Geddy Lee’s skills rather than the chest thumping bass. I don’t think my system is lacking in bass delivery but this is purely just tuneful playing of the instrument.
