Not the old show. New management, new (not NY) location but I am hopeful. See you there.
T.H.E. New York International Audio Show
Old show back in new location, starts today
I attended today. It wasn’t what I expected (in a negative way). The venue was unassuming. No banners or anything to indicate a major audio show was underway. I bought a vip ticket that promised perks that were nonexistent. All I got was a cheap paper bracelet. However I wasn’t completely disappointed. It was my first show. I enjoyed overhearing experts discussing tariffs and music. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Guttenberg and Gingko Audio. I visited the PS Audio room featuring the new PMG line. Mr. McGowan was in the room but I was too shy to say hi. It was a good experience. I’ll be back tomorrow and hope to run into other industry folks. I forgot to mention that I got a complementary copy of the bible—Stereophile.

New York Int’L Audio Show, Hilton Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, 10-26-25 Steve Guttenberg on Youtube (I haven’t watched it yet) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1f1wP59jKPY My closest friend and I went Sunday mid-morning/early afternoon (we both are Tubes/Vinyl/Floorstanding Custom Made Wooden Speakers (over many many years, we tend to hear the same good and bad things). Happily it was not crowded, we could walk in, sit down, wait for a track to finish, request specific content, converse about this and that with exhibitors, many the principals, designers, most interested parties. I concentrate on Speakers, you would need to ask the exhibitors what equipment they were using. I made no notes, didn’t plan on reviewing anything, this is just to share a few of my feeble memories. Generally Vinyl sounded better to us than streaming, however streaming was quite good as you all keep saying.
Robert Lighton Audio, RL12 Speaker System, with External Crossovers https://www.youtube.com/shorts/znTf5DKdxXI I’m 77, I’ve been to more than a few shows since getting hooked in 1973, heard some remarkable speakers, these are the most impressive speakers I have ever heard. We visited a second time on the way out, I yapped quite enthusiastically for some Podcast.

absolutely remarkable how much he gets out of his small/slim designs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3Gc6jPMy7w https://tonianlabs.com/tonianacoustic.htm This is the best stand mounted speaker I ever heard, just outstanding! And, the Technics SA-C600 CD Receiver mentioned below was his source/amplifier. I don’t need it, but I want one, shame it doesn’t play SACDs.

They had two pairs of identical speakers, volume matched, I think these Operas https://www.operaloudspeakers.com/en/ One pair on their isolators, the other not, and a customer could randomly switch with a remote control. A duet with a female singer and Leonard Cohen, I could definitely hear a change in Leonard’s voice each time the customer switched, the pair on the Isolators sounded better to me each time.
I'm guessing which version, here's a different model

@kr4 did you attend? |
I woke up thinking about the Lyra Atlas cartridge. I only listened to two tracks, of interesting but totally unfamiliar music, so it is quite possible it was the content, not the cartridge that I found uninvolving. Had I been paying more attention, I bet there was some familiar content I could have put on. As I said, I knew instantly that it was a cut above, asked what it was, they told me it was Lyra Atlas, then I put my brain into listen to the cartridge mode. I said feeble memory, I can remember the position of the TT against the window wall, and the location of the stacks of LPs on the left side in the room, but I don’t recall what room, what TT, who was playing it. Sorry, I should have realized at the time how rare a chance it was. I hadn’t been to a show in a Long time. I was anticipating a crowded, hot, mess, crowded rooms and hallways like the old days. |
Robert Lighton Speakers Most Impressive is wrong, Most Desireable is more what I meant to say. I mean, impressive could be a too tall stack of Wilsons, in a too small room, but I never wanted Wilsons. I often think, if my beloved speakers were stolen, what would I want? I would probably restore a pair of JSE Model 2's because I had and loved them for years, still listen to them at two friend's homes, ... But, I would want those RL12's more than anything I ever heard.
