I haven't done this for 9 months, so I hope it won't be considered spamming to repeat it for 2020. Fellow Oregonians: the Portland Audio Club meets monthly. We would love to have you with us! The PAC is a great place to trade stories with other audiophiles, to get to know people, and to hear a variety of audio systems. Here’s the link to the Portland Audio Club. There, you can check out our past and upcoming meetings. Every meeting includes time for general discussion. We have members with very elaborate systems and some with very simple systems. I have heard many of them, and I am amazed at the variety of systems that can produce engaging music. We started via Meetup long before I became organizer, and I am glad we did. Meetup is the social network that doesn’t sell or trade your personal information. Instead, organizers pay for the service (and we recoup that through our nominal dues of $12/yr. This year we have some great programs, including a couple of nights of tune-sharing, a demonstration of building a network streamer, and a presentation by Art Noxon of ASC. OK! Enough said! Hi Dave: Sorry to hear that Meetup didn’t work for you. I believe you need to open a Meetup account before you can join any Meetup group. Maybe you did that. Meetup is, in my opinion, the most benign of social networks. The organizers pay for Meetup’s services, and Meetup does not, to my knowledge, collect information, spy on users, or sell information on them. Sometimes Meetup servers are not working right and that can cause problems. Beyond that, I can only urge you to try again, and if that doesn’t work, try emailing Meetup tech support. I hope you succeed -- we sure enjoy having new members. Mike |

Let me say one more thing about the Portland Audio Club. The philosophies I try to keep to as organizer are (1) let's get to know -- and learn from -- one another, (2) everyone's system sounds good to them, (3) what is "best" (in audio as in music) depends on your tastes and priorities, and (4) we're in it for the music. Those ideas are not a hard sell at PAC, which means to me that we have a great group of members. So if you're looking for "shoot-outs", we're not the club for you. If you want to share your love of music and audio with others, and possibly make some friends, we are! |

Hello all, Out here in Central Oregon, Crooked River Ranch to be exact. Been a music lover since a young age and audio equipment aficionado since 1976. Enjoy many genres of music. Currently have Thiel CS2's, Hafler 9180, Rotel pre, older Philips CD80 (sounds good to me!). Standby speakers: original Dan D'Agostino satellitle/sub circa 1978. Bryston power amp and Rega turntable years ago. 5 sound systems total....yup got the bug. Anyone else out here, say Bend? Redmond? Enjoy the music! |
I started a group on Facebook called "north west audiophiles marketplace" hoping to meat others in the north west to listen, buy, sale, trade, and discuss equipment! I usually have pretty cool stuff to check out or trade and it's so hard in the Boise Idah area to find people with equipment I want to try! I usually have to purchase the gear and pay enormous shipping sight unseen! I'm Willing to drive anyware in the NW to check stuff out or purchase! Hoping to make it easier to get my hands on gear! Kacz and bdp24 I suggest joining the Portland Audio Club on Meetups. There are a lot of members but only about 35 are would I would say are active and at most meetup get togethers only about 15 attend. I sure there are some odd members but I have also met some wonderful Audiophiles who love music and discussing system components both at Meetup the vents and also at listening sessions I have held at my home for my friends. |
I'm about to find out about Portland, as I'm moving across the river from it in a week, to Vancouver Washington. I've visited Portland a lot, and know there are a few shops still open. Of those I've been in Echo only, and realize being in Southern California with it's rich (I don't mean in the financial sense, but that too!) audiophile community for so long has really spoiled me! |
Thought I commented on here before, guess not or I can’t seem to find it. I don’t really know any other Audiophiles at all. Not a single stereo store or activity what so ever out here. I’m in the Columbia Gorge, a little over an hour from Portland going East. I get a little skeptical about meeting other audiophiles though. When I’d hang out in the stores in Portland I came across some the weirdest, oddest people around. Like borderline autistic or something. Maybe that’s just Portland though ha. However the shop owners were audiophiles and always pretty dang cool. Cindy and Gary from the Audio Gallery in Lake Oswego is where I was first introduced to Hi end Stereo. A shame about Gary and the store closing. And would regularly stop into Echo Audio. Sometimes Freds sound of Music. Seen a few Audiophile stores come and go in the Portland Area. |
bdp24 ... Has the prices of home really gone up ... or has the value of money gone down? To the Oregonians posting here: I lived in the Salem area for a year, then retreated back to California. Question: How do you keep your audio gear from rusting? I discovered why the state capital of Oregon is Salem. Its because people in Oregon don't drive their cars ... they salem. |
