Warped LP's

Hey,

So, are some pressings just warped from factory?

I had purchased Springsteen’s Letter to You from Amazon (double LP) and the first LP has a very visible warp/wobble to it, although it sounded fine.

But didn’t like that and so exchanged it for another and this one also seems to have a bit of a wobble to it although not as bad as the first one (same side).

Since it seems to sound ok, I will probably just stick with it.

Amazon packing seems pretty secure and safe so I don’t think it is on them although who knows how they are kept at their warehouse.

But wanted to inquire if this happens time to time.

Thnx

Exchange the defective LP. If the warp is minor and other than that the record is perfect, consider keeping it.
I just bought a brand new Cassandra Wilson Blue Light Till Dawn directly from blue note and the 2nd LP has a minor warp. I requested a replay which was sent promptly but it has the exact same issue. I won’t bother replacing it. It’s too minor and other than that great record.

Played through the whole album and as stated before, it seems ok, so I will keep it.

But I almost tripped out when I got to side D or what I thought would be side D.

At first, it didn't look right to me and I thought, oh no, this is defective also and will need to return.

But then I quickly realized that how the album is, it doesn't have a side D. I have never seen a double LP with only 3 sides to play (live and learn I guess).

Side D is just an image without any grooves. I thought that was interesting.

I have many 3 sided LPs.  Most of the time this occurs on vinyl reissues that were originally issued on a single CD.  Since a single CD can hold over 80 minutes, conversion to LP (which can generally hold 25 minutes per side at most) results in the need for a double LP, but not necessarily all four sides.  It all depends on the length of the original CD.

@baylinor

That's not entirely true especially when a record is "washboard" in the center of the record surface.

I had similar issues with the Cassandra Wilson.
