Thanks to all for the provocative replies, from which I have learned a good deal including the surprising number of FM aficionados still out there using superb vintage tuners with sophisticated installations.
@tablejockey True, the Levi review led me to post this inquiry to the expert forum. As you note, lamp cord seemed fine in the early days of stereo FM. Anyone who can keep the MR71 running as a workhorse for 60 years is a devotee at the highest level, so kudos to you.
@audphile1 Thanks for the tip on Kimber. I note that Levi himself recommended Kimber for this tuner in his 2004 review. If a less costly option such as Gotham Audio isn't quieter and less shrill, I may spring for it (after new tubes burn in).
