Upgrade Power Cord for FM Tuner

For those still using FM tuners (I stream also), what would you consider the best value in upgraded power cords? While retubing my vintage MD-108 today (original Sovtek to Northern Electric) I was embarrassed to discover that I had never bothered to upgrade the original crappy cord. Nothing over $500, as this unit is quite long in the tooth and may never be replaced when it dies.

 "I don’t recall power cords being a big issue in the 70s-80s . . . "

We have been thoroughly brainwashed thru marketing close to 50 years now.

My posts didn’t mention the tuner is connected to a PS Audio Powerplant which is plugged into wiring/panel that’s been updated. Perhaps the "clean power" negates any PC upgrade?

Having a captive PC, I’ll never know🤣

MD 108/108T is still a top notch FM tuner with/without aftermarket PC/IC’s.

I have vintage Amperex Bugle Boy tubes in the audio out and that seems to make the only noticeable difference.

Again, YMMV.

Since we’re talkin FM tuna’s we all know nothing will make up for inferior antennae/positioning AND quality broadcast (which is in short supply, unfortunately)

LONG LIVE FM RADIO!!

If you want to make a Power cable for your Tuner, use 1.0mm cross section cable 17awg, make the line 2 metres long and fit solid hard plastic plugs at both ends. If you can, you could Silver Solder the contacts. It's worth doing so that you have a reference for future cable purchase.

@tablejockey I don’t use power regeneration or power conditioning. Two dedicated lines. Simple system. DAC with built in network card, integrated amp, table, phono stage, speakers. Power cords make a difference in my system. But….if I had a tuner, I would probably buy a decent used power cable from an established manufacturer, just because it looks nicer than a stock cord, and call it a day.
Other than a cool factor, what else does a tuner offer? I’m genuinely curious…

@audphile1 It glows in the dark! It's analog! It's got bold visual displays and big precision dials and a dozen nifty toggles all in a row! It's techy, yet warm and fuzzy too! It's one little thing that still feels within our control! And, every so often, in your own quiet room well after dark, some distant human FM radio sound engineer will have got everything exactly right, and you will know that the magic is something you can't quite replicate with a streamer, measurements be damned.
