Power cords for any component provide no objective difference in sound. Considering that a tuner picks up signals from the air, a power cable will make zero objective difference in the sound.
Upgrade Power Cord for FM Tuner
For those still using FM tuners (I stream also), what would you consider the best value in upgraded power cords? While retubing my vintage MD-108 today (original Sovtek to Northern Electric) I was embarrassed to discover that I had never bothered to upgrade the original crappy cord. Nothing over $500, as this unit is quite long in the tooth and may never be replaced when it dies.

Thanks to all for the provocative replies, from which I have learned a good deal including the surprising number of FM aficionados still out there using superb vintage tuners with sophisticated installations. @psf4972 Most encouraging to learn that even world-class enthusiasts can give serious attention to an issue like this one. Good luck with keeping FM in Blighty beyond 2030! |
Funny. Didn’t know it was recommended for your tuner. |
"I don’t recall power cords being a big issue in the 70s-80s . . . " We have been thoroughly brainwashed thru marketing close to 50 years now. My posts didn’t mention the tuner is connected to a PS Audio Powerplant which is plugged into wiring/panel that’s been updated. Perhaps the "clean power" negates any PC upgrade? Having a captive PC, I’ll never know🤣 MD 108/108T is still a top notch FM tuner with/without aftermarket PC/IC’s. I have vintage Amperex Bugle Boy tubes in the audio out and that seems to make the only noticeable difference. Again, YMMV. Since we’re talkin FM tuna’s we all know nothing will make up for inferior antennae/positioning AND quality broadcast (which is in short supply, unfortunately) LONG LIVE FM RADIO!!
