Totally Agree
Personality
I now find myself streaming most of the time. Although the SQ is really good, I realize there’s something missing. When I pull out a record or CD, each one seems to have a uniqueness or personality of its own which reflects when I first bought it or played it. Also each one seems to have a sound signature which I associate with it, making it more personal. I don’t get that with streaming
Does anyone else feel this way?

@rvpiano I have not taken the leap into streaming for two reasons. First, is the additional cost (I almost said investment) of new equipment. The second reason is my current collection of music. While not large, between CDs & LPs I have about 2500 selections. On average, I listen to three selections every evening. +/- two hours. At that rate, I will only hear the same selection once every 2 - 2.5 years. And I'm still buying new music all the time. Maybe it's my upbring but I prefer to own and not rent. Cheers. |
@rvpiano Although I don't stream, I can understand the sentiment. My take is that there's no "you" involved in streaming. All one does is scroll and push buttons. Scrolling and pushing buttons are done by you, but are not sufficient sometimes. The physical presence using streaming is lacking. I feel that is more difficult to connect with something if it lacks a physical presence. There's the physical aspect: getting up, finding the CD or LP, putting it on the player etc... And there are the emotional connections we make to memories brought up by listing to the music again. My apologies for the poor description I've given. |
