Where do classical vinyl records get their rumble from?
@richardbrand  The grips on golf clubs wear out and need to be replaced. After the old grip has been removed, tape is laid down, then the inside of the grip is moistened, and slid onto the taped shaft. After the moistener evaporates, the tape hol...
Where do classical vinyl records get their rumble from?
@richardbrand  If I could go back to the sticky tape for the Achromat mat for a second. I use golfer's double sided grip tape. Comes in a long roll. It is exceedingly thin because golfers don't want a thick squishy feeling when hitting the golf ...
Seeking advice about vinyl vs CD.
If you feel that you won't listen to your LPs very much or not at all, then sell them to a local record store. You may get only $50 per box but that's not the point. By doing this you provide the opportunity for someone else to listen to those gr...
Lamp cord and speaker hanger audiophiles
@frank009  I'm right with you on a number of topics, but......what does this post have to do with audio? Seems more like a life's choices post. I have actually used some very thick (10 ga) solid copper wire from my preamp to power amp. Worked gr...

@richardbrand  REW can display the arm/cartridge resonance quite easily. Use the RTA function. Expand the graph's low frequency cutoff to 2Hz. Play any record or test record as long as there's no information below 15Hz or so. You will see the arm...
Selecting Between Vintage Denon and Microseiki Tonearms
I've used Micro Seiki arms for decades. Both the MA-505 and the 505L will work with any cartridge. I've transitioned from cartridges like the Grace F9L (lightweight, high compliance) to more modern cartridges such as the Shelter 901 or Benz Micro ...
audiophile folklore - cables and claims from manufacturers
@frank009  I'll chime in for WBC also. I bought quite a few balanced cables many years back. Quality stuff. Since then, I've begun building my own. This way I can control length, and keep capacitance to a minimum. I use Belden 1505F double shie...

@lewm  I've never had a stylus so far out of alignment that I could visually see the tilt. The very tip of the stylus in nearly invisible to the unaided human eye. The rest of the stylus is for support in mounting to the cantilever and can be as ...

@frank009  Yeah, that photo looks like something I'd cook up in my garage in four hours or so.  MIT even managed to crimp the cable sheathing! Quite professionally done indeed!
audiophile folklore - cables and claims from manufacturers
@frank009  Thanks for the explanation. I was reaching for someone who definitely hears/thinks/believes cables can improve the sound of a system. You and I think similarly on this matter. I understand the physics explanation on how cables work....
audiophile folklore - cables and claims from manufacturers
Can anyone who hears differences in cables explain why "audiophile" cables improve the sound of an audio system? Technical explanations please. Manufacturers do something physical to a cable in order to claim that there i an improvement. What is ...

@lewm  So you got a lemon. Of course I do a sanity check. I've been doing these alignments long enough to understand that measurements if not done correctly or interpreted improperly can lead to mistakes. My results speak for themselves.

@steakster  Don't trust me. Check out what Sean Carroll the cosmologist has to say,. I stand by my statement.
