Personality

I now find myself streaming most of the time. Although the SQ is really good, I realize there’s something missing.  When I pull out a record or CD, each one seems to have a uniqueness or personality of its own which reflects when I first bought it or played it.  Also each one seems to have a sound signature which I associate with it, making it more personal.  I don’t get that with streaming

Does anyone else feel this way?

@rvpiano Although I don't stream, I can understand the sentiment.

My take is that there's no "you" involved in streaming. All one does is scroll and push buttons. Scrolling and pushing buttons are done by you, but are not sufficient sometimes. The physical presence using streaming is lacking.

I feel that is more difficult to connect with something if it lacks a physical presence. There's the physical aspect: getting up, finding the CD or LP, putting it on the player etc... And there are the emotional connections we make to memories brought up by listing to the music again.

My apologies for the poor description I've given.

Same thing applies to reading books/magazines. I prefer to own the physical object rather than getting it on a screen.

no worries, after the robots decimate the human population. Whoever is left will go back to physical media. But hey, until that happens, let’s ride this technology so that we can live up to 150 years old. I do have concerns that I am Too old to hit that window 🪟and too poor to access some of those technologies when they are made available. But hey, we just might Luck out.

@rvpiano you have vinyl, CDs and streaming. Enjoy all three formats and the feelings triggered by each media. Streaming sounds simply fabulous in my system. I don’t spin CDs as I think it’s kind of pointless as my streaming is superior to CD (sold the transport). I just got back into vinyl. Different sound. It’s cool to be able to throw on a record and chill for 12 minutes before you need to get up and flip it. But it’s fun nonetheless.
