Looking for a cd transport in the 5k range: Jay’s Audio CDT3 MK3 or Pro-Ject RS2T?

I wrote recently about a brand where I had both their transport and DAC which after a certain period of time could not be fixed. Kept breaking down. Spent too much money trying to get them to work. No dice. Refused to name brand because I knew thread would be taken down. Yet somebody guessed it shortly after! Astonishing.

So I need a transport and from comments on Audiogon it has come down to these two. Problem with Jay is they only have one dealer in Texas who does not return calls the PRO--JECT is easily accessible and 2k cheaper. It must be a top loader with an AES output. Just transport, No DAC.

Currently using th $500 SMSL(some prefer the Shanling) as a very good stopgap  but am looking for more resolution in large orchestral forces.

Anybody heard both of these and have any opinions?

Thanks for your help.

I purchased my CDT2 MK3 from TEK audio in early 2024 and it has performed flawlessly. I also opted to purchase the Philips replacement drive for insurance. I have received top notch support from Todd and would not hesitate to purchase from TEK Audio again.  In regards to Chinese quality, both the CDT2 MK3 and my Denafrips Pontus II DAC which I have had nearly 5 years are built like tanks.  The two pair nicely using the I2S connection.  CDS are my primary mode of listening and I was tempted to spend the extra $ for the CDT3 MK3. I opted not to and will use the money instead to upgrade my Pontus II to either a Venus or Terminator DAC.

Roxy1927 the reason why I only want to spend 2k on transport because of the laser sometimes they only lasted 3yrs to 5 yrs. When my MARANTZ SA10 laser gave up its only 37months, out of warranty. Marantz won’t repair out of warranty. Can you imagine a good sacd cdp this expensive and become a boat anchor? Luckily agoners helps me find the original laser and the right tech. I have esoteric sacd player laser broke as well ,

I cannot comment on those two.

I have a McIntosh MCT-500 that has functioned flawlessly. That said, I have been thinking of selling it, because I find it easier to rip my CDs to my HIFIRose transport. And I'll use the shelf real estate for a new DAC. Sure, I'll lose SACD superiority, but I only have a half-dozen. I'd sell the player for $5K. It's like new, have boxes etc.
