Looking for a cd transport in the 5k range: Jay’s Audio CDT3 MK3 or Pro-Ject RS2T?

I wrote recently about a brand where I had both their transport and DAC which after a certain period of time could not be fixed. Kept breaking down. Spent too much money trying to get them to work. No dice. Refused to name brand because I knew thread would be taken down. Yet somebody guessed it shortly after! Astonishing.

So I need a transport and from comments on Audiogon it has come down to these two. Problem with Jay is they only have one dealer in Texas who does not return calls the PRO--JECT is easily accessible and 2k cheaper. It must be a top loader with an AES output. Just transport, No DAC.

Currently using th $500 SMSL(some prefer the Shanling) as a very good stopgap  but am looking for more resolution in large orchestral forces.

Anybody heard both of these and have any opinions?

@boxcarman  The Cambridge is a slot loader vs the top loader he’s looking for. And, it’s an okay transport but not in the same SQ league as the 2 being discussed . I’ve had one.

I get it.  What could you expect for $599..  There aren't that many simple transports out there.  So I just threw that out.  Old man ADD.

The teac 701 is what is in the 40k esoteric player version transport has been around for decades still in production with usa repair shops.i have  several versions at various ages still working. You can get them new ,do a search. Enjoy the spinning.

SMSL has a transport (not a "player", but they build one of those also) that might interest you. $500, if you can stomach the low price.

Roxy1927 sorry for this delayed response. 2k and 5k transport will sound different, you can hear the difference but is not always better..I like separate because I can choose my preferred DAC. I believe the TEAC 701 transport is a safe bet for 2k. Iam not recommending it because I have not heard it. I would rather spend my 5k on DAC and audition the TEAC .Will the TEAC equal the sound quality of 5k transport ? Maybe..
