So how does your system sound...would take a few and describe to us.
Thank you
Speaker height...should known better
This very process, of moving speakers around and listening, is a true "recording studio engineer" task. It is what engineers do in studios when they are setting up. Today engineers work in many different rooms and MUST get consistent results. They must work where the work is, so this idea of an engineer always working in the same studio is rare. This makes learning how to set up in different spaces and moving speakers (or microphones) around a key skill. I just had dinner with an engineer who used to be the house second engineer at Capitol and he mentioned about 10 different studios he’s worked in since Capitol closed. He is expected to produce the same level of work he did while at Capitol (with those wonderful rooms) so listening and understanding how spaces sound is a HUGE skill that these engineers must develop. I’ve raised my Joseph audio perspective 2 speakers up higher since I bought them. They are only 36 inches high , significantly shorter than my other Thiel 2.7 (and previous 3.7) speakers. I never felt that the sound stage was shortened or too low per se. But a while back when I went down a rabbit hole, trying all sorts of isolation or coupling of the loudspeakers with regards to the carpeted wood floor, they sit on, I tried all sorts of platforms and footers. When I was seeking most of all was tightening up the bass and achieving great tone in the speakers. But what I also found how much I liked the sound stage when the speakers were raised up higher. It became more expansive and developing and real sounding. So I tried to balance that with getting the tone I wanted. The Joseph speakers are actually designed to sound best with ears somewhat below the height of the tweeter, and that’s the reason they come angled slightly backwards on their outriggers. But even saying that they have really excellent vertical dispersion so there’s a fair amount to play with there. Ultimately, I ended up making a marble base, which sit on hockey pucks and spikes into the floor, and the speakers are raised further by iso acoustic Gaia footers, and hockey pucks at the front outriggers. This means they’re raised about 6 inches off the floor. It sounds absolutely glorious: tight, rich bass, super grain free clarity and beauty of tone, and the sound stage feels “ unlimited” in its size with plenty of recordings.
