This hobby is more fun with others to share and compare with!
I live near Kalamazoo, which is a little less than an hour south of Grand Rapids.

While waiting on the new thread for a Grand Rapids based group this is a call to Michigan Audiophiles for the "Third Coast Audio Society". Please contact us at [email protected] for a copy of our Charter and to let us know about you and your interests. We have a wonderful hobby that needs to be encouraged and enjoyed. Here's to new friends, great musical moments and audio toys! |
JLM, from Owosso (between Flint/Lansing). Had attended a couple of SE Michigan meetings years ago, but lost touch. Have been into stereo/audio for 40 years. Currently have custom built single driver speakers in a Cardas prescribed room/nearfield layout. Might be able to host a get together. Have a small HT system in the family room and an older system in the living room. |
Midland Mi here. try to set up a meeting in neutral location or an agreed upon home and have a chat and bull session. ask questions, where to meet, officers? Dues? when and where to meet? Purpose of meeting? Guest speaker? the club has to have a mission... not just show up and bull about nothing. do we talk about gear? Music? Tweeks? our personal expierences? AK fest is not a good place to meet... to much going on and to hard to get all potential club members in the same place at one time. |
aa555, I am in St. Joseph, MI SW corner by the big lake. I doubt I'd have many coming down for a gtg, but I would travel. I have a good friend in GR that I could crash at. This threads been going on for 7 years...I guess there is no hurry :) lol The hotel gives two comp drinks and snacks. Let's pick the closest table to the bar as soon as it opens. Someone bring a piece of paper and write MI audio club or something on it. |
I'm all for trying to get a group of guys together, but I also know how challenging it can be to try something like that at AKFest. There is too much stuff to see in a short amount of time. Last year I spent the whole day there and didn't see everything I wanted to. To try and add meeting a new group of guys to the mix might not work real well. |
My email is [email protected]. I'm in Grand Rapids. What is AKfest, where when. Probably would be a good place to meet up, maybe get something rolling there. Kurtis |
First off I have a virus so I can't get back to any of you till it's gone. Sorry this just started. I would like to go to AKFEST is there anyone going from this side of the state? I lost the use of my legs and can't drive. But I would gladly pay gas money for a ride there. I have one other person in my area that says he may be interested in starting a club also. Do any of you have friends or family into Audio? The more we can recruit the easier it will be to have a monthly or bi-monthly meeting. I look foward to talking all things audio. My system is very low end. B&K preamp and amp,Denon DVD player,Technics 1200 and Polk LSi7 speakers. But I had to start some where.I will do my best to get my computer back asap. Talk with you soon Steve PS don't Email me till I get back on line as I will loose all info when They re do my HD |
I will be at AKfest also. The old nasty hotel actually had better rooms, IMO, but it is still fun and growing every year. I suggest everyone interested in attending a listening event email Steve. Even tho we are spread out we should have a master email list. From there we can hold an event in the N,S,E and West you can pick your events from there??? What say you? |
Email me if your anywhere near The west coast of Mich. I am interested in starting a club.We need to get our email addresses to each other, Here's mine.Let us [email protected] |
Still interested. I am in SW (Stevensville) MI and can attend or host. Yes it seems we need a ringleader. I am willing to help. Since we are all spread out I guess it may come down to how far people are willing to drive. Anyone interested should reply to this thread as it is rather old. Anyone going to AKfest09? |
I responded a couple months ago also. It appears that there are several interested, but it apears a ringleader is needed to actually organize something and take the next step. Any volunteers? I live in Hemlock and would be interested in getting together once in awhile. Listening to others systems, music taste, and of course I would be willing to do the same. I sort of got out of the 2 channel for abit and went strictly home theater, but in the past 6 months I have been putting a system back together again. |
Kurtsm and S7horton, I'm originally from Grand Rapids, but moved away when I was 25. I'm now 50. Who knows... we might have gone to the same school... I graduated from Forest Hills Central high school in 1975. Back in the early and mid 70's, the only thing that the guys that I hung out with wanted was a better stereo system and to listen to music. We haunted "The Sound Room" and various record stores back then. It was the hayday of rock... and there were rock concerts and keggers everywhere. I'm now in Louisiana...I hope that the weather's OK in GR. I used to snow ski, ice skate and snurf. (If any of you are about my age, you'll remember the snurfer, which was the precursor to the snowboard and introduced around 1969. It was originally sold only in Western Michigan and then expanded out from there to other states once it got popular.) I remember the cool weather well. Take care. Sincerely, Stan Brown |
I live in Grand Rapids. I am very interested in a hi-fi club. I am just beginning my quest into the audiophile sickness. I currently have sonus faber concertino speakers hooked to my yamaha rx-v3000 with a biwire pair of siltech ls-180 cables. I am currently using my pioneer elite DV-45A, however I am looking to purchase a theta digital miles used for a decent price. Does anyone know where a sonus faber authorized dealer is located anywhere nearby? I lost all the bolts which attach my speakers to my stands during my most recent move. Please advise, Kurtis |
Also in the Detroit area here. While not a local club we have put together a small gathering of www.Audiokarma.org members in Southfield Michigan in Feb of 2004. We are all about Music,Fun and friendships. Snobbery is not permitted as its just plain rude. Sorry for that last line but having attended past local meetings I found it to be all to common. AK fest is supposed to be a members only event but its free to join and takes about a sec. Honestly no one will be turned away for not being a member but membership is encouraged. Anyone with questions or comments please feel free to write me at [email protected] or stop on by Audiokarma. Grumpy |
