Shaggy rug Pet-friendly alternative to a shaggy rug for room acoustics?

Hi everyone,

I recently adopted a dog from an abusive background. While he is settling in, he has a habit of peeing on the stereo room shaggy rug, which means the rug has to go.

That rug did a fantastic job of softening the sound in my stereo room, making the high end sweet and non-harsh. Now that it is gone, the room is too reflective.

Are there any effective floor-based sound dampening solutions that are either pet-accident resistant or significantly easier to clean than a shaggy carpet? parquet maybe ? I am trying to tame first reflections without creating a hygiene nightmare.

Appreciate any suggestions?

@triskadecaphobic I can second the recommendation for rugpadusa.com . Great variety of options; high quality and really good customer service.

The Superior Lock 1/4” works well for us under a few Nepalese hand-knotted wool rugs; I suspect they would work well under the washable rugs that @tcutter listed and the combined effect should give you good acoustic results.

If I got a carpet I would lay down and then roll up each listening session... will that would last less then a week before it was permanent.

I’d use a thick 100% cotton blanket that is easy to launder.

Maybe a waffle/thermal style.

Fold it up when not in use.

a good alternative is to treat the ceiling.  Of course, it doesn’t handle the floor bounce as well, but that’s a relatively narrow band.  Overall, you can compensate well this way.

If your dog still manages to pee on it, you should enter him in a contest.
