Hmmm. Probably the Grateful Dead in 1993. I’ve never seen 20,000 people experience that much joy. Honorable mention to the Vulfpeck show I saw at Red Rocks last summer.

This is an easy one for me. About 10 years ago I got to see Chick Corea’s Elektric Band at The Blue Note in NYC with Victor Wooten on bass, Dave Weckl on drums. Frank Gambale on guitar, and Eric Marienthal on sax and was by far the most amazing live performance and display of musicianship I’ve ever seen and will likely never be bettered. Incredible players from top to bottom playing amazing music in an intimate setting, and watching Wooten and Weckl trade 32nd notes was one of the many unreal highlights I’ll never forget. Everything since has paled in comparison although Patricia Barber at The Green Mill in Chicago was a somewhat close second. |
