Chris Botti at McCarter Theatre in Princeton back in the 2000s. What a well practiced showman; Great interpretation of Look of Love.
Brad Mehldau at the Village Vanguard in NY back in the late 1990s. Intense and artful.
This is an easy one for me. About 10 years ago I got to see Chick Corea’s Elektric Band at The Blue Note in NYC with Victor Wooten on bass, Dave Weckl on drums. Frank Gambale on guitar, and Eric Marienthal on sax and was by far the most amazing live performance and display of musicianship I’ve ever seen and will likely never be bettered. Incredible players from top to bottom playing amazing music in an intimate setting, and watching Wooten and Weckl trade 32nd notes was one of the many unreal highlights I’ll never forget. Everything since has paled in comparison although Patricia Barber at The Green Mill in Chicago was a somewhat close second. |
@shtinkydog Made me smile. Thanks for sharing similar memories. |
Have been reading through this thread, lots of great concerts for sure! Makes me think of concerts I wish I would have attended, like I had the opportunity to attend a Pink Floyd concert in Phoenix when they were touring the Animals album, also a small venue with Elton John in Las Vegas (sigh). One of the best was my second concert, Elton John doing the Yellow Brick Road tour. Other greats, Billy Joel, Yes, ELO, Paul Simon and Carol King. Last concert I attended was Bonnie Raitt just last year... |
