Power Cord for Accuphase Amplifier

I have a new Accuphase P-4600 amplifier and am looking for a power cord to replace the stock. So far I’ve tried the Cullen Crossfire and the IceAge OFC Frankencable. While both cables have worked well on my source components they have not performed better than the stock on the amplifier. So to those who have Accuphase amplifiers what power cable has worked for you?

As I mentioned in other threads Accuphase strongly recommends that you use only the stock cord and so far that has been the best. The. other two have resulted in a darker sound with less soundscape openness.

I’ve been trying to stay under $500 for the cord but would be willing to go a little higher if it improves the amps performance.

“This is a very good upgrade from the stock and the Cullen power cord, without a doubt.”

@milpai

Pretty much no brainer! PAD makes good cables but I’m not a fan of,

a. over the top treatment of the conductors, that can push things too far 🚩

b. garden hose construction

I hope you get to compare few cables in Neptune price range before going deep in PAD ecosystem.

Hi @lalitk

Agreed about the garden hose construction. I had not expected that. But besides that, I am very impressed with the upgrade and I have not experienced anything negative with this power cable in my system. TBH, before getting them I was worried that my system might start sounding a bit warmer than what I would like. But that is absolutely not the case.

My dealer is the one who recommended them to me. Till date his recommendations have worked for me.

@milpai

That makes sense if your dealer understands your system and preferences. Good luck with your cable upgrade!

I tried Purist Audio Design Diamond Revision Neptune that TMR had about a year and a half ago. It was a used cable. A jaw dropping experience!
It squished clarity and treble extension so tremendously that I couldn’t yank it out fast enough. No matter what component it was on, same effect. Terrible.
But I’m glad it works out for you @milpai

@audphile1

You had already posted your similar opinion on the PAD thread. Wonder why you had to post the same again, since I had linked the thread in my response above.

Strange that you did not let the cable burn-in properly and immediately decided to pull it out. Yeah, it might be used. But maybe the previous owner did the same thing as you did and sold it and it was on shelf for quite some time. For me "burn-in" is a real thing.

In any case; I read your response, did not care for it and trusted my dealer. I value his advise more than your opinions. He deals in very high end systems and has far more experience. And he was on dot with how PAD gels with my amplifier and the rest of the system. In fact I have decided to get more PAD power cables.
