It can be very, very challenging to get the smoke smell out; even more so if a thoughtful seller doused the thing in Febreze, leaving you to deal with the revolting Febreze stench, which is even harder to get out than smoke.

Exactly. My household has non-smokers, so anything that reeks with smoke smell is a definite no-go.  

If not indicated, I would ask if from a smoke free environment.

In other, less nonsensical terms;

He must have been given a tracking number. You might ask him where it’s at presently or if he could share the tracking number with you so you can know when it arrives without having to call for updates. See what he says. This all of course hinges on whether the amp exists solipsismically or not.

by the way I did pick up the cd player on Saturday. I have been listening to it and enjoying it. I was actually helping a good friend of mine with this repair as he’s tied up and was not able to do this without my help. I’ll have this player for a bit then it goes back to its rightful owner. For now spinning discs from my collection I haven’t heard in years has been a blast for the last couple of days. I’ve been running it as a player and as transport into my Meitner DAC. I’ve been seriously thinking about a nice cd transport since I heard what CDs can sound like. Might pick one up at some point.
