Techniques 1200 g versus 1200 GR2 for small vinyl collection

My current system is luxman 595 class amp, Moon 891 amp, and focal sopra n1 speakers.

I have a small vinyl collection. Probably about 20 vinyls. I don't see myself buying love vinyls cuz I'm mostly just streaming. I want to get a techniques turntable because they remind me of the turntable my family used to have.

I'm looking at the techniques SL 1200 GR2 or the SL1200 g. I would get the ortofon black cartridge.

To save money I'm thinking about the GR2. Would I regret it and wish I got the SL1200 later? Would it be silly to buy the 1200 g when I only have 20 vinyls and I do mostly streaming?

"sounds like you have more money than a mid-size African country. Buy the best Technics TT from Crutchfield, you will have 60 days to return it if you don't care for it."

lol. Suspect you got that right.

"People getting into vinyl can't hear this enough times: it's expensive, inconvenient, time-consuming with very little rewards and mostly inferior quality to digital. "

Clearly, you got that wrong.  Hey, if I had to choose, I would stick with digital.  BUT, I am having more enjoyment from LP's now more than ever. Just picked up more than 50 LP's at a local used record shop--pristine, like new recordings for $1 each.  Some of us like the ritual of setting  up a table, tweaking it, cleaning the records.  Quite to the contrary, it has been full of rewards!

Since you call them vinyls and own only 20, why fret? Either of those TTs will exceed your needs.

@lewm

lol at your comment, I was thinking the same thing....

“I want to get a techniques turntable because they remind me of the turntable my family used to have.”

That actually makes sense and honestly, it’s a healthy way to approach vinyl. You’re not chasing it as your main source… you’re keeping it as something special.

And going with Technics hits the spot on both nostalgia and good quality.

With about 20 records in your collection (I’d love to know what genres you’re into so readers here can make some cartridge recommendations), the mindset doesn’t have to be about building a huge record collection.

It can simply be, I’m creating a small ritual I can return to when I want to feel music.

"Would I regret it and wish I got the SL1200 later? “ - Yes!

GR vs G version is like small engine “affordable” BMW!
