Accuphase amplifier choice
Hello All,
I have decided to upgrade my Parasound A21 amplifier looking for a more refined sound. The following are the amplifiers that I have in my mind:
Accuphase A-48s
Accuphase P-4600
Coda No. 8 (meterless)
Coda 16.0 (meterless)
Currently I am leaning largely to Accuphase. My dealer says that the Class A 48s will sound better with my ProAc D48R. But I am worried that I will lose dynamics since the Accuphase is only 50W into 8 Ohms. But it doubles all the way into 1 ohm.
The P-4600 is a higher wattage amp and I think it should be able to drive the D48R with ease because it doubles down to 2 ohm load. So I am not concerned with it's ability to drive the ProAcs.
I do have some feedback on the P-4600 from another thread here and appreciate it. But now looking for some comparisons.
Has anyone compared/experienced the Accuphase Vs Coda amplifiers? Any feedback is appreciated.

@milpai Sorry for the late response. I completely missed this. I’m extremely impressed by this amplifiers ability to drive my speakers. That was one thing I was mildly concerned about but now I know it will easily drive my speakers to my normal listening levels of 80-95 db. The current this amp supplies is absolutely insane. It keeps doubling its power all the way down to 1 ohm. My old amp was a Coda #8 V1 that did 300 watts into 4 ohms. I feel I left nothing on the table by loss of any power and this new amp is much more refined. Obviously this is all dependent on your listening levels, room size, speaker efficiency along with some other factors. My speakers drop to 1.9 ohms at 32 hz and this new amp handles it very well with no issues with difficult loads. I played some very heavy low bass songs that were very dynamic to test my worst case scenario and all was well. I feel confident this amp can handle most any difficult load. I’m going to keep my Coda amp for my Magnepan speakers but first need to buy a new preamp that will allow me to switch outputs between different amps. |

The local audiophile group was at my place tonight. Two of the gentlemen knew my system from last meeting. The only change was the amplifier and the Intona USB purifier. Smitten is the word that comes to mind. They loved the experience and couldn’t believe how the upgrade from the previously 5X powerful amp to the current puny Accuphase had completely transformed the listening experience. Someone had mentioned that Class A watts are far more powerful. While that does not make sense by itself, you have to experience it personally to know what it means. I am extremely pleased with this amp and thankful to the members who helped me make this decision. |
