The kimber are great choices. I just used the 4pr on the cambridge system I set up for my daughter with b&w speakers. They sounded great. Would also recommend dh labs prelude cryo on sale now.
Advice on speaker cables.
Hello. First time post here and I understand there’s no definitive answer, just looking for advice. I have a midrange system to me anyway and most of it was purchased new recently after giving up on repair of vintage gear. I’ve been using the same 12 gauge Apature copper speaker wire since 1982 and figured I would upgrade. I didn’t realize the hole I was going down. I’ve tried Blue Jean 10 white sounded dull, as well as WBC 7 gauge which I somewhat liked except bass seemed boomy at the expense of treble and midrange. Cables I’ve been advised to try are Kimber 4pr or 8pr as well as Audio Analysis oval 12. I’ve only used bare wire in the past not sure if that matters. My system is Yamaha as1200, Cxn100 streamer, Rotel 1572 mkii cd, Nakamichi oms1a cd. Speakers are Polk monitor 10a I bought new in 1982 with recently upgraded clarity cap crossovers. All interconnects are WBC. Appreciate any advice on speaker cables. Thank you.

I recently made up cables from Mogami W3103, and they sound very good to my ears. Connected between a Coda CSiB and Graham LS6F speakers, I do not find them dark at all. Bulk it’s under $5/ft. When I made them, I did some research into having different cable lengths, and the consensus I found was that in most cases, having different length cables makes no difference, as long as the two cables are not wildly different. Mine are about 8’ and 12’ and I hear no difference. |
Maybe you can wait until you "get your new speakers", test with what you have now to get a general idea first. Then figure out where you plan to position them - where they sound their best within the room, then decide on speaker cables, lengths, and such. @kmm84 I received your message, unable to msg back. I’m not sure what you have there now, and the later version cables were by Accusound. If it was before then, hard to say what they are now based on your descriptions. Never seen or heard of those particular product issues before. Best of luck. |
