Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
Sure thing @hilde45. Fwiw, maybe hold off on the resistors for a while, and a little more time on the speakers (drivers, and caps on x-over inside). And, the tube change on the DAC might get you one splitting hair closer to taking a tad bit of the...

Doing all of the up front evaluation work also allows one to appreciate the final decision that much more.  Looks like the hard work paid off. Congrats!
If you love big electrostatic panels, but have a small acoustic space-a speaker for you!
There are different versions and materials of the diaphragm for the larger Heil. The early 1,1a,1b,1c, Monitor, 6 has a brighter sound and more brittle material too. Listening to both versions, yes they do sound different.  The later diaphragm and...

ex·pe·ri·ence "direct observation of or participation in events as a basis of knowledge". There are members on this forum with strong opinions back to early 2000s and now at "ten amps ago" or "twenty speakers ago". Some could afford to buy and ...
MHDT Orchid or Audio Mirror/ pick one for me please
MHDT Lab Orchid here. Several friends also run the Orchid and Pagoda. We like it, R2R ladder implementation and all. One buddy runs the Pagoda in a recording-master studio. I demo’d the highly regarded Benchmark Dac3 B myself. Preferred Orchid for...

@coltrane1 "Ha, why sample ML Motian’s. Hint: They’re not true ML’s. "Why not? A ML rep called me out of the blue this week, happened to mention Martin Logan sells Motion series all over the world with success. The original founder of Paradigm pur...

Nice. Great to see it! 40 years building with the Great Heil AMT. I worked at ESS building them on the assembly line. Built several custom versions since. Prefer crossing over at 1,200hz vs 2k to retain Heil midrange magic. Listening to my custom ...
Sophia Electric EL34 or KT88 ??
@tuberistGold Lion KT77s are great tubes. Very detailed and dynamic top to bottom. Only shortcoming I experienced was in the mid bass department; a little lean for my taste. However they are really good tubes.Do you prefer the Genelex Gold Lyon KT...
PS Audio BHK lacking..
Love the last two posts. I really like them. On to tube amps now.
How long is the break-in time for a Sophia Electric Blue 6SN7 tube?
You'll notice change and settling between 100-150hrs.  No need to leave them on 24/7, and 20-30min warmup seems to be fine.  I run the former TJ Full Music 6SN7 previously noted as being one of the OEM for Sophia 6SN7s but may have changed over th...

@tomic601 Was it this way before with RM, It appears RAM Labs redirects the RAM EL34 selection to the TheTubeAudioStore site now,  http://www.tubeaudiostore.com/elecgrad.html

@johnss Thanks for that update Johnss. It’s helpful, as we kinda know many of us are trying, using, and always on the lookout for a few of the good ones to buy and keep spares of. I’ve concluded these really do become throw-away tubes with no warr...
Sophia Electric EL34 or KT88 ??
@whackyWhile I have not personally tried the Genelex Gold Lyon KT77 in any or my prior amps, I too would try them if my current KT150 based amps could support it. They will not. I first heard about the KT77s from Jim McShane years ago after sharin...

@hilde45"...a more detailed description is coming, but they are not harsh or aggressive at all."Excellent.  Reading posts, it seems the new monitor speakers are headed in a better direction for you and your listening space.  And, with no expensive...

@whacky+1Agon member @johnss mentioned one other tube above that I heard a year ago in a tube replacement situation on a friend’s amp. As it turned out he was running the wrong spec tubes for the amp, TS KT150s, actually. Great tube, wrong amp for...
