Aimee Mann

just saw her last night. Had to wait 26 years but it was worth it. She sounded as good as ever.

Beautiful, moving voice and songs...

Oh boy, Aimee is a voice I would like to hear live. I never paid enough attention to her whereabouts, my bad.

There are certain voices, primarily female, that you just ought to hear live. Someone (my memory remembers the experience, but who ___, it'll come to me) was going to be at Joe's Pub, we got great seats, hot damn.

She had a bad cold, performed anyway. They should have cancelled, given us a refund or alternate future date, but no.

I'm still mad, at her and Joe's Pub.

I almost always see and hear live music in clubs, occasionally small or medium-size theaters or halls. In Portland that is often at The Aladdin Theater, where I’ve seen Iris DeMent twice, ticket prices around $40 iirc. At Revolution Hall I’ve seen Joan Osborne and The Jerry Douglas Band, tickets about the same price.

For Aimee’s upcoming shows at Revolution Hall (two nights), Friday night tickets are $136, Thursday $118. Not outrageous, but more than I’m used to paying. In the past few years I seen Mary Gauthier, Jim Lauderdale, NRBQ, and the trio of Brennen Leigh/Kelly Willis/Melissa Carper in clubs for around $30. All were fantastic. But beers were $10, bourbon $15-$20. Now THAT is ridiculous smiley.
