Parasound A21+ vs Adcom GFA-585se
I want to change my amps from Wyred4sound SX-1000 mono blocks to a good class A/B amp. I was thinking of the A21+, but i looked at the 585se and the Adcom compares, on paper, to the Parasound JC5. Both have plenty of power to drive my speakers and cost the same. Anyone with experience with both?

@shtinkydog There’s a few great YT videos and interviews about the history of ADCOM. Although there is very little media or information on the 585se, it has very similar circuits as the earlier designed amps. A can’t 100% attest to the components still being readily available, but the amps are easy to troubleshoot and repair. As my preference between the two of these amps I will say that the 585se has a brighter upper mid and more detail in the lower mids. I currently power ML ESL speakers. Another thing that is notable is that when there’s silence in the source sound the 585 is dead silent. The major drawback is finding either of these amps and both are power hungry. |
It's pretty appearant that most of the comments are from people that have never heard the 585se or know much about the circuitry, who designed it, and the actual build quality and components. I've owned both. Both are great performing amps. It's literally your preferance. The 585se was designed by a legend regardless of the history of how ADCOM came about or where it's made now. Don't believe the hipe |
@avelectrical thanks for the YT info. I will look into it. |
