What improvements would I get with a "better" preamp?

Current preamp is Mapletree Audio 2A/SE Linestage, upgraded with Black Gate caps. Tube rectified separate power supply. 6SN7 per channel. Point-to-point wired. What could be better (for less than $5,000) and why? Must have RCA ins/outs, not XLR.

Neutral with a touch of lushness. I wish to avoid analytical. Live, unamplified music is clear yet organic. That's what I want.

I’d look at a Backert Rhumba or used LTA MicroZOTL, or there’s this used MZ3 that’s very close to the MicroZOTL and will save you some $$$.  These do exactly what you’re looking for sonically.  Best of luck.

@rockadanny the devil is always in the details when assessing any piece of gear.

AI used correctly is perhaps the best way to get answers based on the details, or at least whatever details have been made known to the particular AI engine.

Web Search engine in Poe app specifically has helped me make some very good decisions relating to my hifi.  I would expect similar from Chat GPT.

So in what direction did ChatGPT lead you? Inquiring minds want to know!

Also then interesting to see what the various SMEs on the topic that happen to hang around here have to say.  The more facts and experience in a particular case the better!

I’ve heard the Backert rhumba great preamp,if Iam correct I also heard the Micro ZoTL at axpona , Op with your sound preference the Galion p75 is cheaper but I like it better . Or wait for the Galion Navy preamp available again March .

@patrickalston - great list! I'd throw in Aric's Super 6SN7 (I own an upgraded one); a bit less than the Motherlode but all in one box if you don't have the room for two. No XLR.

Aim for a smooth, liquid sound—don’t waste money on it if it doesn’t deliver that. If you only need volume control, consider a passive preamp with an autoformer-based volume control.
