What do you like about your integrated amp?

So, the other day I was moving my ARC REF 75 amp to clean the insides, along with the shelf it was sitting on, when suddenly I felt a stabbing pain in one of my obliques, as I was twisting my body.

Shouting out a quick, "Oh f***," my wife said, "What are you going to do when you get older, and can't move the amp?" I have periodically wondered that myself, since I am just shy of 71.

As the discussion title says-what do you like about your integrated amp? It's a wide-open query because I'm thinking if I'm going to consolidate my equipment, let's see what's out there? I'm partial to tube equipment and have enjoyed Audio Research for almost 30 years. Does that mean I should get an ARC integrated? Maybe, maybe not.

FTR--I listen to lots of jazz, folk, classical, not that much rock beyond what I grew up listening to-Beatles, the Dead, the Stones--stuff like that. I have a pair of ProAc 30Rs, an Aurender server, and an ARC CD6SE.

All your comments are appreciated-

My Audionet Humboldt integrated is 61kg/135lbs. I’m hunting for a amp platform.

Normally I’d purchase separates for better performance, but compromised on this integrated which sonically competes with top SS separates and was barely within my budget.

@wharfy - since you like ARC sound, maybe best to avoid other lighter options which would change the sonic profiles and turn into a rabbit hole.

I tore my left wrist ligament carrying a heavy weight, so I’d use a feather duster and compressed air to clean and avoid moving heavy objects if possible.

Good morning!

Thanks for your opines, I really appreciate them. Reading through them--they fall into three categories- keep the kit, integrated insights, and don’t fall into the rabbit hole.

Keep the kit-because life is short, don’t compromise, a really good integrated will weigh as much as my ARC, get a amp platform on wheels, get someone to move them for you (@stereo 5-I live in NJ, would your son come over if I needed help :-), keep it in place and use cans of compressed air, injuries are one of the downsides of this hobby and well worth it!

And the integrated insights-look into a Ganfet, Luxman tube integrated, Ayre integrated (which I once owned--they don’t get enough praise), classic Yamahas and Pioneers that are almost as old as my son.

And then there is the rabbit hole.....there are some really nice lower wattage SET, SEP integrateds on the market-Audio Note, Western Electric, Line Magnetic, Coincident......

I love my Gryphon Diablo 300 with DAC and phono options, but as I age I also am having issues with its 90 lbs weight when I have to move it for cabling or cleaning.  I decided in the past month it was time for it to travel down the stairs one last time (only traveled up them one time a few years ago) and I have started replacing it with a three box solution that I can individually handle.  I have enjoyed all the time I spent with the Gryphon and it will make someone else very happy.  Once all its replacement items are received it will be placed back in its wood crate…  thinking about this as I write I still am increasingly apprehensive about that staircase.

I got the same problem moving the Rogue Magnum 3 Cronos Dark weighted 55 lbs around my house that I have tried to find the best room for musics and not only that is also the pair of Focal Micro Utopia speakers. Got back aches after that. We’ll I am thinking about DIYing a stand with wheels so I can push it easier.

Yes the class d stuff is light.smsl from apos has a 500 watt ganfet mono 650$ each.bought this cuz it's light and new tech that switches higher rate so less time in off mode.vthe separate streamers and pre amp are in general light.parasound jc 2 .a roll around rack is nice.i use the super expensive antivibration harbor freight carpet dollies. Now my portable Dyson vac is light and flexible and small head to clean it all off.no moving heavy stuff. As a Physician I would recommend getting help. Plenty safe moving companies or just 3 men and a truck or moving company.home health will not. Its worth the money to get help.pay the neighbor kids a couple of 20$ bills you may get them hooked on audio.happy dusting.
