Would like company.

I’m a friendly very young minded 86 year old (as you can determine by my posts here on A’gon. My problem is I’m not very mobile, great difficulty traveling,  I would love to share my company and high end system with a like minded person from this forum. I live in  Nassau county on Long Island.

54 here, I have found this to be a solitary endeavor, besides these very forums. Our type are far and few between, as other posters have stated. There seems to be way too many distractions for people to sit and listen to entire albums anymore. I highly covet every moment I get in my room, I avoid TV and mainstream like the plague. I hope you can find someone local to share the joy with, but if not, it doesn't lessen the experience of high quality sound reproduction.

@goodlistening64

I am confused about a few things:

they were "full".

You mean new members can't join?

you are most certainly restricted from being honest

You mean people are discouraged from what? Speaking up? Saying what they think?

I once went to an audiophile event in my town. Two people that I knew from work were there. Most people, including those two, were, to be polite, people I would avoid at all costs. In the same time, many audiophiles I interact with, here or via buying and selling are like minded, classy, intelligent, kind people. It's a hit and miss.

I am glad that you have a wife.  I was under the impression that you were alone.  Do you belong to any senior oriented clubs?  My wife and I retired 2 years ago and joined one that has a Monday morning lecture series on different topics.  The music committee does bring in singers from the Lyric Opera a few times a year, along with Great American Songbook type performances.

  My wife and are in our late sixties and most of the club members are 10-20 years older.  The club is clearly looking for new blood and we have been persuaded to undertake some committee responsibilities.

  No audiophile committee, however

@goodlistening64  they could limit the number of people per event. But I am no event organizer. I just never heard of a hobby club based on geography be limited. If you live in the area, you should be welcome. Otherwise it's an exclusive club.

On the restrictions to speak politely, it's a bit strange to ask grown adults to be civilized and kind to the host. Whenever I have another addict over, I hope they will be brutally honest with me so that I can learn.

I guess I am not audiophile member material :)
