Ortofon MC X30 broken cantilever - what are my options

I purchased this cart about 3 months ago.  After playing a record yesterday, I noticed the Cantilever was slightly askew towards the center of the record.  I decided to brush it lightly with a dry stylus brush to see if something was loose.  The cantilever fell off.  I do not recall any event that could have damaged it but you never know.

I have sent a message to Ortofon - but what are my options?  This is my first time with a broken MC Cart.

I am not sure where the math comes from for final cost in another post. But that cartridge looks like it has a MSRP of $779. So 25% off is $194.75. That is a net cost of roughly $584. You don’t get to replace it for 25% or MSRP.

There are quality retippers who would do this for a more affordable cost, and they do excellent work. Consider Expert Stylus, All Clear, or Garrott Brothers, and even Goldring.

The other option is to reach out to your retailer and see if they will be kind and sell you a replacement for a reduced cost. Because these things happen to customers. Now if this is a manufacturer defect and not user caused, it can be covered under warranty. It needs to be inspected by Ortofon USA though. Sometimes they will show grace also, especially if there is not a sign of obvious catastrophic abuse. But that is not guaranteed. Now if there are no other signs of damage they should replace it under warranty. But until inspected, there cannot be a decision.

@neonknight I am thinking I misunderstood how Ortofons policy on repair worked and that you are right with your figures, certainly would not want to give anyone inaccurate advice. I based a decision to purchase a slightly used Quintet Black 6 months ago based on what I thought it to be after talking to a dealer. This is probably a case of, It's not what you don't know that will get you it's what you know for sure that isn't. Enjoy the music

Very emotional experience.  This is my first adventure into a relatively costly MC cartridge.  I will let Ortofon inspect it.  I do not recall anything that could have caused the break.  Maybe it had a flaw.  We will see what they say.

I sent Ortofon a message to get some guidance on how to return it for inspection and possible replacement.  I definitely want to hear from them, it costs $70, since I do not remember doing anything to break it off.  Maybe there was a flaw in the manufacturing process since this is a new cartridge design with new suspension materials.  Depending on their response and proposed solution I will decide the next step.
