Moving up in the REL line of subwoofers

I currently have a set of the REL 812 subs which i am very pleased with.  However i have the audio virus of upgradeitis and am considering replacing them with the REL 212 double decker subs.  Anyone here have experience with that upgrade?

Thanks so much.

@wswright20

I am 72 and i get the question a lot of when i am going to retire, and my answer i s always the same: "and do what,  i don't play golf".

most of my mad money goes to audio as it really is a never ending process.

Thanks for the advice again on the subs.  i am pleased with the sound i get but as I mentioned,  always looking for ways to improve the SQ.  the Carbon series would certainly be a step up from what i have.   Thanks.  Kent

ronkent,

I'll preface my comments with there are no absolutes in audio, only preferences. I simply don't prefer REL subwoofers with passive radiators. My room is upstairs and no matter what I tried I could hear the passive radiator when I had dual REL Carbons. I initially liked the Carbons, but eventually sold them. I've owned several subwoofers...SVS Ultra 15&16, HSU, Martin Logan depth i, dual JL Audio F110s & F112s with CR1. I prefer REL No. 32s to any subwoofers that I've owned. I prefer them not necessarily because of the bass, but how they improve everything across the audio spectrum. Of course this is my opinion based on my experience.

Season's Greetings!  Keep me posted on your next Subwoofer move.

Happy listening!

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to give your input and insight.  Happy Holidays.   Kent

+1 on the Carbon specials.  Like most of the S line they an be found for a good discount now that the new ones are out. I find them extremely musical, fast, and augment everything; soundstage, depth, physical involvement, imaging.  While a line array does do other things, being that each one on the stack is independently tuned, they come at quite a cost esthetically in the room.  Sub placement is everything, and it took me a while to get the standard 'just inside my main speakers' out of my stubborn preconceptions.  Running them with REL's wireless system (super easy) allowed me to place them on the side walls and re-tune them, eliminating large room nodes and bounce back from just behind my listening position.  They are elegant as well.  I have a pair of the older Carbon Limiteds and the newer Carbon Specials (in two systems) and both are fantastic.  Both pairs are positioned on the front part of the side walls, and not only integrate better, but get out of the way esthetically.  Once adjusted, I never need to even look at the rear controls.
