The best investment I have made for my vinyl playback has been in my phono preamps. Each preamp improvement has revealed that my cartridges each had more to offer even though I had previously loved the experience each produced. I have had VAC phono sections with SUTs, Gryphon phono boards, and now a small manufacture (Dynamic Sounds Associates) Phono 2 recently upgraded by the designer that again has revealed my cartridges had more to share. Currently have Hyperion MR, Hana Red, Kleos, Miyajima Zero, Paradox Pulse Gard 103r, and a few more. Three arms and three individually adjustable inputs makes for easy and interesting choices. (This morning is starting with the Paradox Pulse).
Recommended a highly resolving cartridge
Hi all, all tube system that is warm with a good midrange presence inherently. I’m looking for a cartridge that offers high detail / resolution and wide / deep soundstage. This is on a stock SL-1200G TT. On a side note, if anyone has experience “upgrading” the stock tonearm on a G please chime in. I’ve read conflicting reports of the merits of such a move, and while I’m very happy with the tone of my TT and am not looking to move off of it, I am curious about a tonearm swap (must allow for headshell swapping).

I had never known about that Grado you mentioned Ricky. I looked up the Australian price. Twice what the ART20 sells for in Australia! Yet you seem to much prefer the ART20. I have not seen a poor opinion of the ART20. I'm not familiar with the Trumpet so I can't offer much of an opinion as to what would be better. |
@drrsutliff i am down an arm but it’s just a flesh wound… I don’t think I’ve heard a recent AT art level cart ( or for that matter Signet ) that failed to please on many dimensions. Like you, I am a firm believer in wringing out the chain including isolation, the table, the arm, cables, the phono stage and YaeS setup. I am sure the Hagerman is a giant killer for some. |
