Fantastic sounding, robust engineering, good post sale support w upgrade path, reasonable case work without excess… in business a long time….. = wow. i have owned a Pandora DAC ( signature ) for a decade..other than chasing better sound w NOS tub...

Child level statistics and some knowlege about the record mastering / pressing process ( mother …stamper…press, cycle time, day, temp…etc will tell you the deadwax is a good place to start…. Many variables are NOT discernible via deadwax….. start ...

@jji666 there is a lot of wisdom and experience in your assessment…. my own methods are based on longer term evaluation of single variable ( when possible ) and strict level matching……  
Vandersteen VLR (non CT), my opinion
Grammy award winner uses the VLR for studio work. It’s a fantastic speaker and as pointed out, the grill frame serves a VERY important sonic function.

Elliott - The plinth was made in Italy including the very well machined aluminum arm boards. the veneer is apple from Germany. Peter does some amazing plinths. He is a fellow member of San Diego Audio Guild…  a true renaissance man ! i am working...
