Have the itch yet again. $5-6k budget for floorstanders.

Well I've owned around 20 floorstanders over the last 30 years. Ridiculous I know but for me that's the hobby: trying new gear every 1-2 years. Anyhoots currently have Zu DW6 Superfly in my main rig, Wharfedale Evo 4.4 in the small TV room. Have both tube & SS amps I rotate. Yesterday I sold my SVS Ultra Tower (the prior version) ergo gots me thinking, so fun to go shopping, no? I listen to mostly jazz, on vinyl & via Qobuz. Some beats also (downtempo/chill). I used to rock out  but nevermore. Prefer to stay under 100lbs; not getting any younger. I do have a SVS sub the SB 2000 pro btw.

Here's my short list:

  • SVS Ultra Titan
  • MOFI 888
  • Dali Opticon 8
  • Cornwall IV (rich buddy downsizing)
  • Goldenear T66 (owned the orig Triton One way back 2013, dug them, had to downsize for a move)
  • Dyn C2 (wildcard, never heard em, wish I could audition)

Anyhoots, who wants to chime in?

zufan, last spring I bought the MoFi SP 888.  I'm not familiar with the other models on your list but feel confident in recommending them.

There was lots of information online when they were introduced but little since then.  I'm not sure why except that often seems to happen.

For me they look great (felt fortunate to get the white cabinets), were easy to place and drive, and I've had great musical enjoyment with a wide variety of types.  They are nearly full range (no, not down into the 20 Hz range), have great tonality, and are easy to listen to for extended periods of time.  Some of my best recordings have startled me with their "in the room" presentation.

At the very least you owe them an audition.

My rich buddy downsizing also has Revel F328Be but they’re 110lbs or something with big flight cases that also weight that much. But I could prolly get them way cheap and they’re near new.

I dig my Wharfedale Evo 4.4 also. Typically I go for the live Zu sound but the Wharfs are so easy on the ears. Def laid back but really good for jazz. Eyeballing these Elysian atm also, the 4 too big for my new current room I reckon. I just moved last month. Open floor plan behind me, the width is 16ft.

I’ll chime in on these excellent comments next 1-2 days.

Thanks everyone!

I can only imagine the hate I'll get, but some Dali, and the Goldenear models to me seem like low-volume speakers.  Excess brightness which is good for background, not good for moderate to full range volumes.

I said what I said.
