Ungrounded power cord: Will I die?

Hi all ! This is a short story about how I almost died from my refrigerator . I noticed my freezer smelled like bad food . So I went through all the questionable food (lots of it as I am single) and threw it out , wiped out the fridge and freezer . Next day , freezer and fridge smelled like bad food again , cleaned out everything wiped out freezer and fridge . Next morning get up , grab fridge door and bang !!! Grabbed the crap out of me , I couldnt let go of the door handle , finally fell down and was able to let go . Reason ? I lifted the ground as it would make a popping noise through my speakers when the compressor came on . I plugged the fridge into a 2 plug noise filter . One of the wires inside the fridge was burnt and was touching the cabinet . 1 in a million ? Not good enough odds for me when messing with electricity . Thanks for reading....brad

Hi all ! The insulation on the wire was burning and causing the smell I thought was bad food . Moral of the story.... dont mess around with any voltage , 120 volts will kill you as easy as 480v .

Ooooh, I see how you got confused about the smell, but 480 is a lot more likely to fry you than 120. My bet is if you had grabbed 480 you wouldn't be around to tell your story.

Hi all ! I have been hit by 120 , 240 and 480v . None of them feel good . Some chillers are 4160 volts , never been hit by that , thank god . The reason I have been hit so much (aside from being dumb) is I have worked in airconditioning for 37 years and have had my hands in thousands of panels . Also , to this day I never wear any jewelery as I have seen a guy's wedding ring melted to his finger . I dont take the chances I did when I was younger .

Yes, under curtain conditions. Verify polarity.
If the polarity is reversed you can be shocked when touching another metal object that is grounded.
Same as above but with you standing in water with or without touching anything else, by by.
The 3 prong plug ground is mainly a bonding ground to the metal enclosure of the equipment so if anything shorts out and go's to ground it blows any number of fuses in the circuit.
If you lift the ground verify polarity especially if the plug tongs are the same size use a polarity a tester.
I have live through 120/208/277 & 460 volt hits.
The worst was 277 VAC.

Can you tie a floating chassis to a grounded chassis with a speaker wire?

The results of this type of accident are not pretty. I witnessed such an event when I threw the hair dryer into the bath tub with my X-WIFE. I'm not stupid though, I unplugged all my audio gear and my flat screen before I did it.

Can you tie a floating chassis to a grounded chassis with a speaker wire?

If your planning on tying two different metal component housing cabinets (i.e. preamp to CD player) together with a piece of speaker wire, you should be able to do it with a 14-16 gauge wire. If I'm wrong, jump in somebody. I've done this in the past.

Doing this can cause a ground loop, and result in hum in some cases.

Don't go inside any component, and tie any floating grounds to the chassis. This can be risky, and there may be a reason the designer did this inside.
