The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin passes away

I saw the sad news tonight that the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin has passed away. Rolling Stone Magazine posted this tribute mapping her remarkable life - https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/aretha-franklin-queen-of-soul-dead-at-76-119453/
But Aretha is best known to me anyway for making Matt Guitar Murphy THINK in the Blues Brothers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGXU7268Z50

RIP Aretha!

Lady Soul RIP, great career, her voice aged like a fine wine which is just so rare for any vocalist. One of a kind and a true musical icon.
She was accompanied by the best recording ensemble in the history of recording when Atlantic Records sent her down to Muscle Shoals, Alabama to record. It was there Jerry Wexler produced her best work, employing the Fame Studios house band,
Obviously an larger than life figure, aptly named the Queen of Soul.  May she rest in peace
Sad to see her go. It would be great to see and hear people based on their talent, like Ella was, instead of what we have nowadays with everything being focus group tested. Her voice was a gift we all shared.

All the best,
Nonoise
true genius
heaven must be rolling in the blues today, blues with eternal soul....
If I ever get to heaven I am looking forward to hear her with Ray Charles on piano singing duets .
". . . when Atlantic Records sent her down to Muscle Shoals, Alabama to record . . . "
Yup! Watch this amazing documentary! Muscle Shoals. It revisits the creation of some legendary music. Aretha, Jimmy Cliff, The Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, Traffic and many, many more.

Diana Krall posted this touching tribute on her FB page...

"Dear Aretha, We will all miss you so very much.
With every touch of a piano key every note played sung or heard your soulfulness and depth of feeling no words could ever express we will always strive to get to in how we live love give and play music every night and day. We are grateful to you for being part of our lives and you will stay with us in our hearts forever and always.
Love Diana"
