An Inspired Meeting: Haynes and Scofield jam on Allman Bros' "Dreams"

Like many, I’d guess, the recent passing of Dickie Betts has inspired me to seek out and watch a whole bunch of Allman Bros. and related aggregations on youtube.

"Dreams" has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it in the early seventies.

Here John Scofield sits in with Warren Haynes and Govt. Mule.

Such different approaches but a shared love for improvising:

Given the simple, repetitive vamp, it’s mind-blowing how much harmonic territory Scofield can cover. Equally impressive is Warren’s ability to spin complex melodic webs.

It might be tempting but misguided to declare Scofield’s approach "intellectual" and Haynes’ "emotional". Each expresses emotion and musical intelligence in their own unique fashion.

Great, Thanks..Just sent to six friends who will keep on sending this out.

@bigtwin

I'll check that one out.

I'm  mostly familiar with his "straight" Jazz recordings.

Two of my favorites are "Meant To Be" with Joe Lovano and the tribute to Miles cd on Verve Joe Henderson recorded late in his career... "So Near So Far"? ...something like that.

Thank you for this thread! Just a tremendous performance.

Massive John Scofield fan.
