Did they miss any of YOUR favorites?

Do you have a MUST-HAVE recording of these chestnuts?

Cheers,

For just choral works, the following are some essentials:

Tallis: Spem in Alium

Sheppard:  Missa Cantate

Lauridsen: Lux Aeterna (20th century)

Ramirez:  Missa Criolla (first Vatican-approved mass in the vernacular)

@inagroove   My personal choice for Mahler Symphony No.2... The London Symphony Chorus and Orchestra /George Solti(London CSA 2217-1966). There might be more Flamboyant versions but Solti never gets in the way of the music with his interpretation.

@dayglow

Thanks for the Mahler #2 recommendation.

I have always enjoyed the LSO and will look for this release.

Best,

@dayglow

Sadly, all copies of are from Europe or Australia, so the shipping cost more than the box set...

I will keep looking.

To me, the value of a list, particularly of classical, is particular performances by identified conductors and orchestras on specific labels. (Even more, particular pressing since stuff gets remastered). It’s like saying "chicken piccata is great" without specifying the restaurant making the dish or at least the recipe.  I won't mention the spleen sandwiches. :)
