Full Range Driver Recommendations Wanted

Im building a pair of folded horn speakers called the Lii Headwreckers. The design was done by Steve Deckert for Lii song.  Steve builds these for the US market and also sells the plans which I bought. Steve and Lii Song use the Lii Song PT-10 full range 10" drivers. According to reviews and Steve himself, these drivers can be fatigueing. He actually sells an optional magnetic crossover for this reason but that's an additional 1k in addition to the $2200 drivers. Id like to put a driver in that doesn't need additional components to tame the brightness.  Any DYIers out there that can recomend a good 10" full range driver?

I’m not sure why you would want to go to the trouble of building an elaborate enclosure like that and then not install the driver that it was designed for. Not to throw a monkey wrench in your plan but Wodan Designs offers plans for a full range of speakers based on Mark audio drivers. They are both straight and folded Voight pipe designs, using full range drivers without crossovers. The Mark audio drivers seem to be well respected and reasonably priced. I just built the smallest of these speakers with a 3 inch Mark audio Al pair 5.3. If you thought anything was going to be harsh, it would be a 3 inch speaker, but I have not found it to be the case once it was broken in, it is really quite good. I think I may make the lead to building a larger speaker with a larger driver in the future.

Thanks Bruce.  Ill look into your suggestions.  The Headwreckers were a bit ambitious for my woodworking skills and tools but taking my time and buying a few tools and clamps and they v are coming along nicely. I guess im hesitant to put a driver in that cost that much. Nice thing about this design is drivers can be swapped out pretty easily.  Guess im looking for opinions on well made full range drivers that measure well. Ill check out mark audio.  Thanks again

If you are going through all that trouble then invest in a good field coil

in Germany big deiver and inner coaxial type Radu Tarta builds Great power supplies for them and sound exceptional. Better then Voxativ when completed

field coils are truly better in every respect but more $$ !!

I'm not really a DIY'er, but I do have a speaker upgrade company. Most full range drivers benefit from some minor compensation. My guess is without measuring these is that they could use baffle step compensation. That one circuit could make these very nice sounding. Good Luck, Tim
