The streaming revolution.

If you had told me in my early days of listening that one day I would have easy access to virtually the entire recorded music output of mankind mostly in glorious sound and at a cost of pennies per day, I would have thought you a wild futurist.
This revolution has come with it a predicament of delirious proportion.  What to listen to?  Even If you limit yourself to one musical genre,  the choices seem endless.  It indeed is like a kid in a candy shop for a music lover.
I’m not complaining.  I’m just in awe!

Wow, plenty of streaming fanboys here.

I beg to disagree. To me streaming is another conduit for music, with its own set of pluses and minuses - nothing more and nothing less.

To clarify - I stream half of the time or more, and I have been listening to virtualized digital music since the good folks at Franhofer unleashed mp3 on the world in the early 90s. I am no luddite stuck in a long-gone past.

I do like the convenience and access of streaming, but I don’t like its all-you-can-eat relentlessness. In my view, the gluttony it shoves down your throat not only makes you feel like you’re a duck being groomed for foie gras, but it also strips the music of all the small things that give it its value and, appropriately enough I guess, it deprives its creators of what used to be a major source of revenue.

For me, there will always be a time and a place to switch off the streaming and enjoy LPs and CDs and tape.

I don't know what streaming service you are using, but mine doesn't shove anything down my throat. It serves up precisely what I request.

Such as?

We all use streaming differently. I mostly select the albums I want to hear. No playlists. Not looking to be directed to other albums.

Streaming is convenient and the ability it gives you to discover new music is amazing.
Downside is - the remastered albums are a hit or miss. Depending on what you want to listen to. I’ve heard new vinyl reissues from original tapes mastered by a few skillful dudes that will smoke the streaming versions even if they’re high res.

Absolutely. I use Vinyl, Qobuz and a local library of rips, downloads, etc. They each have advantages and disadvantages. I wouldn’t be without any of them.
