The streaming revolution.

If you had told me in my early days of listening that one day I would have easy access to virtually the entire recorded music output of mankind mostly in glorious sound and at a cost of pennies per day, I would have thought you a wild futurist.
This revolution has come with it a predicament of delirious proportion.  What to listen to?  Even If you limit yourself to one musical genre,  the choices seem endless.  It indeed is like a kid in a candy shop for a music lover.
I’m not complaining.  I’m just in awe!

Unfortunately, it totally sucks for all those out there creating music for a living & selling their CDs.  Please go to concerts.  If you like someone's music, please buy their CDs.  Preferably at the concert, but even 1 CD at a store will probably net them more than they'll ever see from stream world.

I was reading music reviews on TAS and another site the other night. Found about 10 jazz albums I was very interested in. 7 were available on streaming, and was great to listen in right away. Though also need CD or LP for those not available on streaming. And I agree, great situation for me, horrible for many artists...I do fear that over time a lot of great music will not be produced or recorded because of this situation…

If an artist puts out a good album I will often buy it from their site.    I also like live music, I know it's really how these guys survive

We saw Marcus King in a small theater at FoxWoods last week.  It was phenomenal

Streaming actually saves you from buying records that are just so so.

Wow, plenty of streaming fanboys here.

I beg to disagree. To me streaming is another conduit for music, with its own set of pluses and minuses - nothing more and nothing less.

To clarify - I stream half of the time or more, and I have been listening to virtualized digital music since the good folks at Franhofer unleashed mp3 on the world in the early 90s. I am no luddite stuck in a long-gone past.

I do like the convenience and access of streaming, but I don’t like its all-you-can-eat relentlessness. In my view, the gluttony it shoves down your throat not only makes you feel like you’re a duck being groomed for foie gras, but it also strips the music of all the small things that give it its value and, appropriately enough I guess, it deprives its creators of what used to be a major source of revenue.

For me, there will always be a time and a place to switch off the streaming and enjoy LPs and CDs and tape.

I don't know what streaming service you are using, but mine doesn't shove anything down my throat. It serves up precisely what I request.

Such as?
