LPSU foe modem and router - how important?
How important is powering a modem and router with a linear power supply as opposed to SMPS. I run my system on a powecell 8 SX and a couple Furutech ETP50s with NCF line purifiers for my REL six pack down stream. Using iFi iPower SMPS on router and modem now. Is it recommended to use an LPSU instead? My system is pretty resolving.

I bought a reasonable priced PSU off allied express...just to eliminate any doubt...I am happy with my purchase...I have the latest Google fibre router and it uses two power supplys...but got what I needed in one box with two different voltages. I am happy. Took the doubt out of my mind for less than $200. |
Yea, most of use have heard that the LPS is always better then using a SMPS. I have a Bluesound Node N130 and I bought a LPS for it. It did make a difference, not a $400 difference, but a difference. The biggest BUT is that you have to bypass the SMPS and that will void your warranty. On more thought is, SMPS’s have come a long way, so you might look into getting a better quality PS that you can plug into the same power socket. All the best. |
Good Morning @ghdprentice ! It may matter less, but but I hear the improvement. Obviously there are folks here that don't hear it, or don't want to try it. And to others, there is just plain 'good enough'. I know you are neither! @mikhailark, you might be best suited for the world of Docusign and military concerns vs. the nirvana of amazing sound. But I am glad these discussions cause you to laugh. |
