I see Monitor Audio 7G speakers are on sale. Are they due for a refresh?

I see Monitor Audio Silver 500 7G and others are on sale for a substantial discount. Overstocked? Or is it about time for them to have a refresh?

Prices are very tempting.

Release Context & Shopping

The previous 7th Generation (7G) featured iconic tech like Rigid Surface Technology II (RST II) and C-CAM Gold Dome tweeters, with prices spanning from the Silver 100 bookshelf at roughly $1,100/pair up to the Silver 500 towers. [1, 2]

  • Launch Timeline: Discussions on AVForums indicate that the 8G series reveal is expected between late summer and early fall.
  • Deals on 7G: Because the new generation is incoming, authorized dealers have been liquidating 7G stock.

@bill_k thanks. I wasn't aware. The 7G had good reviews generally, and snagging a pair of 500 7G for ~2500 seems like a very good deal. I heard they have a slightly recessed midrange, (Monitor Audio's "house sound"), but they might respond well to a little EQ.

I have the Silver500 6gs and I really like them. They have a 5” midrange and the 7gs have a 3” midrange. I wonder what size midrange the 8gs will have? I like the 5” midrange because it gives more body and weight to tom toms giving them a more realistic sound. The 7gs were supposed to be more transparent but the midrange was slightly recessed. I’m using Cardas Clear Cygnus cables which match very well with my speakers and give them a very balanced sound.
