Trying Qobuz Connect For the First Time

My Weiss 501 DAC just received the latest Firmware update. I have been using the JPlay interface which  I find to be very transparent and dimensional. So far the Connect sound seems more immediate and somewhat forward. I need to listen a lot more before doing a fair comparison with JPlay.

@mclinnguy

Can you guys tell me how you were made aware about the firmware update?

Daniel Weiss sent me an email to let me know, because I had asked about it previously. Now there's also a note about it on the product page.

mclinn, I signed up for emails from Weiss about product and software updates and that’s how I learned about the software addition of Qobuz connect. Through my 501 playing QC, the music presentation loses a lot of spatial qualities. It is not night and day, but it is definitely noticeable and the QC presentation is sure to appeal to some. I used Roon for years until Daniel Weiss recommended I try JPlay, although both sound good, JPlay sounds more natural to me and is preferred

I use Jplay and Roon with Nucleus One as Roon Core.
The latest roon updates have addressed a lot of performance issues including sound quality. As of now the gap between Jplay and Roon has narrowed. But…given roon’s historical inconsistency with updates that can and most likely will impact sound quality again, I will be using both Roon and Jplay. I have a large music library on SSD mounted inside the Nucleus. To make the local library available with Jplay I need to install minim server…additional time, additional subscription…and I haven’t gotten around to trying to it yet. I have been enjoying Roon a lot more nor after the update.

@dwette

Nice of Daniel to do that.

I have some correspondence with him as well, and I thought I had registered the product when I got it (second hand) but nothing emailed.

@tuberist  just subscribed online via the contact form, hopefully good now.

Thanks guys.

Yeah @audphile1  love Jplay, I have been using Roon less and less. Going forward I trust Jplay much more than Roon. The former is concerned about quality sound for audiophiles, and the latter is concerned with massive acceptance to music listeners, even those in cars. Wonder if I can sell my lifetime subscription devil

@mclinnguy I haven’t tried jplay in the car yet. I normally listen to tidal when I drive. Decent stereo there so it will be interesting to see if I can hear any sound quality differences. Doubt it :)
