Question for the older folks- did you ditch vinyl when cd arrived?
When CDs came out I thought they sounded like crap and didn't even buy a CDP. I have an Arcam DVD player I can use as a CDP, but no longer use it. If need be I could use it as transport into my DAC, but have only ever done that once when someone c...

@yoyoyaya I've known plenty of Naim owners to move on to other brands. I already upgraded from a Naim phono-stage to Boulder, from a Naim streamer to a Weiss DAC, and from Naim Fraim to HRS racks and isolation bases. I still have a Naim 252/SCDR...

This has got to be one of the weirdest thread I've run into on Audiogon, and there was already plenty of weirdness to go around before it got here.

@yoyoyaya I've had Naim gear since I started with CB 42.5/HC/140 in the mid 80s. :)

@yoyoyaya  The Boulder stuff is mad. I bought the 1108 phono stage early 2025 and got hooked. It completely smokes the Naim Superline/SupercapDR I had before. I have my sights set on upgrading my Naim 252/300 to Boulder 1110 pre and 1151 monobloc...

Who, me? No, I'm not fabricating a custom tonearm anytime soon, or even in my lifetime. I don't even have tools I would need to begin. Mostly, the desire to do something like that for myself isn't there.

@yoyoyaya  Thanks for sharing your views and experience on the Unity arm. I'm not really in the market for a change. I have two 12" Universal and a 9" Tracer. If my dealer gets a SUPATRAC arm for demo, I might bring it home to try out on my Maste...

@yoyoyaya  Clearaudio Jubilee Reference / Unity I'd like to hear more about this. I have a Master Innovation with a Universal 12" arm. I got both before the Unity tonearm ever came out. I've been eyeing the SUPRATRAC tonearms as a possible cha...

Since I’m listening to it now I’ll add Strauss’ Alpine Symphony, Op. 64.  I’m playing the new Decca Pure Analogue series reissue on vinyl with Sir George Solti conducting Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio, originally released on Decca in 1...

Mahler. Symphony 5, 7, 8 7 and 8 are not my favorites. 6 and 9 are much better. :)
Classical Recommendations
Anton Bruckner’s symphonies, especially, 4, 7, 8 & 9. Bruckner loved big, loud brass choirs. Barenboim’s performance of the 4th with the Chicago Symphony on DG is a good one. The CSO has a great brass section and Barenboim unleashes them on th...
Haitink Mahler 5 on DECCA Pure Analog
@audphile1   it might not be the worst 5th. But with better choices out there on streaming I would probably listen to it once.  Oh, it's not my favorite either, but it's maybe not the worst I've ever heard. I have an OG from the Philips Haitin...
Haitink Mahler 5 on DECCA Pure Analog
@audphile1 I hope you enjoy that. I do. I will post what I have to say about the new Decca Pure Analogue Philips Haitink/RCO Mahler 5 tomorrow. It has some issues – IMHO – but I don't think it's as bad as some make it out to be.
Haitink Mahler 5 on DECCA Pure Analog
@audphile1  The Stravinsky is awesome. I love this record. BTW: it is 45 RPM. The jacket says so in fine print, but it’s not all that obvious. This is maybe the best release of the Decca Pure Analogue series so far...except I just listened to th...
Haitink Mahler 5 on DECCA Pure Analog
My copy of this arrived a few hours ago. Right now I'm listening the Strauss Alpensinfonie Solti/SOBR on Decca, also from the Decca Pure Analogue series.  I have an OG of the Haitink/RCO Mahler 5 on Philips and bought the new reissue. I plan to p...
