Trying Qobuz Connect For the First Time

I have a Weiss 501-MK2 and also installed the firmware update that supports Qobuz Connect. It sounds better than using Qobuz via Roon on the 501. Sadly, I think the Qobuz client user experience really sucks. It's way behind Roon. It never remembers the last device I streamed to and defaults to whatever I'm using as a client as the output device (e.g. iPhone, MacBook Air). Roon has no problem with that. In addition, artist, catalog, etc. searches and library management also suck compared to Roon. They're often incomplete and options for organizing results are so limited. Qobuz UI/UX needs work....quite a lot!

I may use Qobuz Connect for more serious listening, but I'm not giving up using Roon anytime soon,

Kudos to Weiss for implementing Qobuz Connect. I just hope Qobuz learns how to create a more usable UI/UX.

6 months ago I stated that Qobuz connect sounds better than Roon (with no up sampling) with Roon running on Mac OS or on Linux, and the guys in our audio club thought the same. The interface of QC is terrible. I setup a playlist of 100 songs that really bring out the sonics of my system and it was a chore using QC. 

With a new dac, I modified Roon server to upsample everything to dsd256, which sounds better than QC.

Yup, gotta love quality companies that continually update their products instead of stating their obsolescence in the hopes one just buys a new one. Just updated mine, worked like a charm. Most times one gets what they pay for in life. There hasn’t been an update in 4 years, and now 5 in a couple of months! I see the latest one June 1 was a Roon roll back to RAAT v1.1.47, must be some issues with the latest Roon update- not surprising.

As far as sound quality in my primary system with my server LMS/Squeeze/Squeezelite is still the best, then MPD/Minimserver/Jplay and then Roon, regardless of file resolution or format. however this is not where the 501 is, it is connected via ethernet in a different system. Have yet to try Qobuz connect.

Daniel Weiss sent me an email to let me know, because I had asked about it previously. Now there's also a note about it on the product page.

mclinn, I signed up for emails from Weiss about product and software updates and that’s how I learned about the software addition of Qobuz connect. Through my 501 playing QC, the music presentation loses a lot of spatial qualities. It is not night and day, but it is definitely noticeable and the QC presentation is sure to appeal to some. I used Roon for years until Daniel Weiss recommended I try JPlay, although both sound good, JPlay sounds more natural to me and is preferred
