Do Streamer only devices really impact sound quality?
If you are going to use usb to a dac (why anybody would is beyond me), then a server will probably make a difference. If you use Ethernet then IME they don’t and you don’t have any issues with jitter or clocking. It’s only with usb that you have t...
Digital is far better than vinyl
Many thousands of $$$ are required to get very good sound. A cheap dac say < $4900 will not have better sq as the better more expensive dacs. This goes the same for an analog setup. I had $15,000 invested in a tt setup and I know I could have d...
Aurender N20
The conductor app is pretty bad. Lightning DS is so much better than conductor, and IMO Auralic makes a better streamer/server. Both of these apps can’t compare to Roon in functionality and sq. If not Roon then audirvana. If you are looking for th...
DAC’s
There are big differences Between DACs, I used to use a dac hooked up to my iPhone to listen when on a plane for work. ‘For me, the dac has to be FPGA based, network and i2s capable, mqa and dsd capable or I won’t even look at it. These are more ...
To pricey
James633 - I agree. The only way to make any B&W that I have heard listenable for any length of time is when you pair them up with a warmer sounding Classe or McIntosh amp. I’m pretty sure that why B&W bought Classe.
Cost break down of hifi system
Room, speakers, network dac, amp, power cables, interconnects. The better your system is, the more you will need to spend on quality cables to get the best sq you can out of it. If you can’t hear the difference between cables, then what are you d...
Anything close to Hegel H360 but smaller/lighter?
This is from TSA: Carry-on bags must weigh less than 35 pounds. Any Hegel will eight more than 35 pounds. Also, I went thru the Denver tsa check in after attending the RMAF and when my bag went thru the scanner, sirens went off and tsa officials r...
Anything close to Hegel H360 but smaller/lighter?
No amps mentioned on these posts will drive your Totems. I’ve owned both of these products and the Hegel will be the only amp listed on this thread that can drive them. I also own the sprout 100 and it won’t come close to driving the totems.  Tot...
any lawyers in this forum care to give an advice?
I had an expensive piece of art delivered by ups to my house when I wasn’t there and the box was damaged. I took pictures of the box the way they delivered it. They I open up the box and the frame was damaged so I took more pics of the damage. I s...
Router for Audio Streaming
I us d to run multiple routers in bridge and wireless bridge mode throughout the house. I was getting 300-400Mbps wifi speeds at best and up to less than 1/2 those speeds in rooms without a router. I swapped the routers out for a tp-link decco wif...
Best Examples Of Cymbal Decays On A Recording
Since I’ve been a drummer for over 60 years, I have always brought in selected music when auditioning speakers that favored the drums, mainly the cymbals. I knew what a larger ride cymbal sounds like as well as a good hi hat pair and the music I w...
ETHERNET CABLES
Of course their is a sq difference in a better cable, including Ethernet cables. In the past, I tried the top of the line blue jeans interconnects to see what all the talk was about and to compare them to my reference cables that cost many times ...
To ROON or not to ROON ?
If I was to go back to a dedicated server (which I’m not), the best software and sound came from the Auralic Lightning DS, Lumin, and then Aurender. The best software on your own hardware is Roon, Audirvana, Pure Music.  Not only does Roon sound t...
Why not?
Why? Also, in the OP’s way of thinking, why stop at power cords? How about the interconnects, speaker, usb, Ethernet, and any other type of cable that might be connected to this device? Now you see the problem. Any of these cables can have a small...
Busted! Reviewer copies manufacturers sales page in review?
Noromance-aren’t car reviews subjective too? Looks of a car vs sound of a component? Only car magazines have multiple reviewers evaluating a group of cars sometimes, especially when they rate 20+ cars for the car of the year, and they rate the wor...
