Solid state in that price range, I would look at the Schiit Kara F and save a couple of hundred dollars.

@ntpc4 - Whilst I really like the Bluesound product line, I really dislike the fact that their gear uses a 3.5" mini stereo jack for analogue input and output nd they are located very close to the power socket, which makes it a little cramped when I connect my power cable. I really would prefer to have a direct RCA connection and get rid of the RCA adapter plugs. But I found a streamer/preamp - WiiM Ultra Music Streamer & Digital Preamp Comes with the inputs and outputs I was looking for and a phono input also Seems to get pretty good reviews as well, so I’m hoping it will be close to the Bluesound from a fidelity perspective. I’ll post an update in a couple of days once I have set it up and ran a few albums through it I just looked at some reviews on these forums and they seem very positive - so fingers crossed. I have an NAD C658 (which uses the Bluesound UI) and a WiiM Ultra. Both offer what you need (though the NAD is way above your $1K budget at $2600). Both offer great sound for digital music/streaming. I have only the NAD connected to a turntable, and it sounds great playing vinyl. If you're not willing to go that high for the NAD, I believe the WiiM to be a great alternative at $400
